Swastika, (Sanskrit: स्वस्तिक), meaning "lucky or auspicious object". The symbol, which dates back to before 2nd century B.C., is believed to be a sacred and auspicious symbol in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. This symbol is also fixed on the bell tower of Báo Ân Từ near the Caodaist Temple, Tây Ninh province, Vietnam.

What is spiritual body? It is your second body. When you are alive, it hardly leaves your body, whose has a very powerful attraction to it. The spiritual bodies of Angels, Saints, Immortals, and Buddhas are miraculous, everlasting and indestructible. A true priest, who achieves the religious goal before death, can have his spiritual body leave and travel around. Such a spiritual body is allowed to see Me (God).

Vi: a family name. Hộ Pháp: Dharma Defender (Sanskrit: dharmapāla), a Buddha in Vajrayana Buddhism. Caodaist adherents believe his spirit has entered the body of Mr Phạm Công Tắc, who is now the leader of the Caodaist Executive Body.

God's Birthday, a major ceremony in Caodaism, which is annually held on the ninth day of the first lunar month. Despite its name, this is not a birthday at all because God has neither birth nor death. The day and the month are selected based on I Ching or Book of Changes, an ancient Chinese book, to represent God. In fact, this is an occasion for Caodaists to worship God.

The Birthday of God the Mother, a major ceremony in Caodaism, which is annually held on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month. Despite its name, it is not a birthday at all because God the Mother has neither birth nor death. The day is chosen based on a myth in ancient China, when Emperor Wu of Han received God the Mother and the Nine Female Buddhas.

This ceremony simultaneously takes place with Hội Yến Diêu Trì Cung ( the Banquet of Diêu Trì Cung), another major ceremony in Caodaism.

If you are punished with the penalty of vĩnh bất tự dụng, you can only be assigned the unimportant tasks, not the position of a leader in any Caodaist offices (from a village to a region).

Disciples, I originated in the primordial gas. Do you know where the deities I told you about came from? You should know that is Tao. Without Me, there would be nothing in the universe and without the primordial gas I wouldn't come into existence.

Thầy đã nói với các con rằng: khi chưa có chi trong càn khôn thế giới thì khí hư vô sanh ra có một thầy và ngôi của thầy là Thái Cực. Thầy phân Thái Cực ra Lưỡng Nghi, Lưỡng Nghi phân ra Tứ Tượng, Tứ Tượng biến Bát Quái, Bát Quái biến hoá vô cùng mới lập ra càn khôn thế giới.

The Collection of Divine Messages:

Disciples, I told you that before the Creation, Khí Hư Vô gave birth to Me and My throne called Thái Cực. Then, I separated Thái Cực into Lưỡng Nghi, which divided into Tứ Tượng. Tứ Tượng, in turn, changed into Bát Quái. Finally, Bát Quái changed countless times to create the universe.

Note:

Khí hư vô: nothingness, void, zero, the limitless.

Thái cực : the absolute.

Lưỡng nghi: the two forms, i.e. Yin and Yang.

Tứ tượng: four phenomena.

Bát quái: the eight trigrams.

Thánh Ngôn Hiệp Tuyển:

"Bính! Thầy giao cho con lo một Trái Càn khôn, con hiểu nghĩa gì không? Cười... Một trái như Trái Đất tròn quay, hiểu không? Bề kính tâm 3 thước 3 tấc, nghe con, lớn quá, mà phải vậy mới đặng, vì là cơ mầu nhiệm Tạo Hóa trong ấy, mà sơn màu xanh da trời, cung Bắc Đẩu và Tinh tú vẽ lên Càn khôn ấy.

Thầy kể Tam thập lục Thiên, Tứ Đại Bộ Châu, ở không không trên không khí, tức là không phải Tinh tú, còn lại Thất thập nhị Địa và Tam thiên Thế giới đều là Tinh tú. Tính lại 3072 ngôi sao. Con phải biểu vẽ lên đó cho đủ.

Con giở sách Thiên văn tây ra coi mà bắt chước. Tại ngôi Bắc Đẩu, con phải vẽ hai cái bánh lái cho đủ và sao Bắc Đẩu cho rõ ràng. Trên vì sao Bắc Đẩu, vẽ con Mắt Thầy, hiểu chăng?

Đáng lẽ trái ấy phải bằng chai, đút trong một ngọn đèn cho nó thường sáng. Ấy là lời cầu nguyện rất quí báu cho cả nhơn loại càn khôn thế giái đó, nhưng mà làm chẳng kịp thì con tùy tiện làm thế nào cho kịp Đại Hội, nghe à!"

"Bính, I assign you to make the Universe Sphere. Do you understand? (Laughing) A globe like the earth. Got that? It should be 3.333 meters in diameter. I know it is too big! It should be that big though because it contains magic power. Paint it sky-blue. Paint stars and the constellation Ursa Major. There are thirty six heavens and four Great Continents in the space, which are not stars. The other seventy two Earths and three thousand Worlds are stars. They are 3,072 stars in total. You should have them all painted. Consult Western Astronomy Books. On the constellation Ursa Major, paint the two ship rudders ( the Big Dipper and the Little Dipper) and the North Star. Paint the Divine Eye on the North Star. Understood? The sphere had better be made of glass, in which a lamp always lights. That is an invaluable prayer for humans. However, just do whatever you can if it is too late for the convention."

According to Caodaist Divine Messages, there are, therefore, an infinite number of universes of all sizes, which are controlled by countless Gods in the endless space. Ours is only one of them, which includes thirty six heavens, four Great Continents, seventy two Earths and three thousand Worlds. Our universe was born at the same time as our God was born from nothingness, will be destroyed in the distant future and will be reproduced in an eternal cycle.

Vong hồn (Vong linh)

"Lạy là gì? là tỏ ra bề ngoài lễ kỉnh trong lòng.

Chấp hai tay lại là sao? Tả là Nhựt, hữu là Nguyệt, vị chi Âm Dương. Âm Dương hiệp nhứt phát khởi Càn Khôn, sanh sanh hóa hóa, tức là Đạo.

* Lạy Thần, lạy Thánh thì 3 lạy là tại sao? là lạy Đấng vào hàng thứ ba của Trời, và cũng chỉ rằng lạy Tinh, Khí, Thần hiệp nhứt. Ấy là Đạo.

The Collection of Divine Messages:

"Why kowtow? To show your sincere respect to someone.

Why join hands? Left is the sun; right is the moon, meaning Yin and Yang, which unite to create the universe and start the process of transformation. That is Đạo.

Why two kowtows to a person? Because that means the united Yin and Yang, the origin of humans.

Why four kowtows to an irreligious dead person? Two for that person and the rest for Heaven and Earth.

Why three kowtows to an Angel and a Saint? Because they are the Third Highest in Heaven. Additionally, you show respect to the combination of Tinh, Khí, Thần (body, mind and soul). That also means Đạo.

Why nine kowtows to an Immortal or a Buddha? Because they belong to Cửu Thiên Khai Hóa.

And why twelve kowtows to Me (God)?

You don't know, do you? I am Thập nhị Khai Thiên, King of the universe. I control the Twelve Lords of Time. Twelve is My own number."

To forget oneself. The phrase refers to someone who pursues worldly values, ignoring the spiritual part.

Disciples, the idea that life is so challenging is predestined in the divine mechanism for all heavenly beings to get a divine promotion with their virtues. Humanity is nothing but market vendors who waste their labor, brain and mind struggling with business, so they easily lose their status in heaven. That's why lots of deities would rather accept their current positions than incarnate on earth. They are like the students who avoid exams. However, that way they will not be able to hold their heavenly positions long.

Li Bai and Guan Yu also requested a permission to punish the immoral, but I did not grant their request because I wanted you to suffer a little bit more. That is also a necessary quality.

Buộc Thượng Sanh phải gần kẻ vô đạo đặng an ủi dạy dỗ, mà kể từ hạng vô đạo trở xuống cho tới vật chất, thuộc về phàm.

Disciples, because of My compassion I admit a lot of irreligious people. If they repent, they can earn good karmic merits. Otherwise, I cannot save them. It's too late for them to feel remorse while they are dying. Think about it!

Chinese: 無為

English, lit. non-doing. Vô vi or wu wei is a prominent concept in Taoism. It is explained by Lao Tzu in Tao Te Ching that phenomena are completely in harmony with Tao and operate in an uncontrived way. Therefore, human should try to attain this purely natural way of behaving as planets effortlessly travel around the sun.

In Caodaism, besides the original meaning, the term is used to refer to lots of other things. For example, the invisible world, the afterlife, the religious community, Heaven, etc.

Vô vi nhi dịch sử quần linh

Chinese: 無為而役使群靈

Kinh Ngọc Hoàng Thượng Đế:

Nhược thiệt, nhược hư,

Bất ngôn nhi mặc tuyên đại hóa.

Beyond both true and false,

God says no words, but controls the universe, in all.
