Latapie

The name of a Frenchman converting to Caodaism. On December 25th 1926, he was ordained as Giáo Sư with a Caodaist name Thượng Latapie Thanh by the Caodaist Supreme Leader Li Bai.

Pourquoi vous séparez-vous à cause de divergences d’opinions religieuses, alors que tous, vous êtes appelés à souffrir et faire votre Purgatoire en ce monde?

Tu as déjà mis pied dans ce chemin qui conduit tout humain vers l’heureux séjour qu’est le Nirvana.

Tâche de continuer cette voie pour arriver à ton but. De Bons Esprits guideront tes pas. Tous tes voeux seront exaucés.

A special seance is hardly held for anyone despite how much serious the request is. However, I grant you your request because I realize your humanity and benevolence. In addition to your righteousness, you want to learn about the new doctrine, which has been cleverly distorted by some of your compatriots. In this country, people are kind and pacifist, so I came here just like Jesus Christ, who had come to combat false belief and preach the gospel the world over.

People in the world, in spite of different races, are begotten by the same father, who is God, who is reigning your destiny. Why do you divide because of religious disagreement? Don't you know that you all must come here for purgation from the impurities of sins?

You have taken the path leading to Nirvana for eternal happiness, so try hard until you achieve your goals. You'll be guided by many good spirits. Your prayers will be responded.

A fishing net or a net for hunting.

Lạc or Lạc Long Quân, the legendary Vietnamese King. Hồng or Hồng Bàng dynasty of ancient Vietnam. Lạc Hồng now refers to the Vietnamese ancestors.

Achieving lots of feats of arms.

Xưa Hớn Bái Công chưa phải là chánh đáng một vị Minh Quân, mà cơ Trời vẫn để cho nghiệp Hớn ba trăm năm quyền bỉnh. Nào tật đố hiền tài, hữu thỉ vô chung, nghe lời sàm tấu, giết người lao công hạn mã, nếu chẳng phải chí của Trương Lương thì không thế nào khỏi xung tâm oán trách.

The Collection of Divine Messages:

In the past, Hớn Bái Công (Emperor Gaozu) was not a wise King, but his dynasty was destined to last over 300 years. He hated talents, betrayed partners, like flatterers, and killed trusty talented generals (having achieved lots of feats of arms). Only Zhang Liang, his adviser, could serve him despite his terribly bad characteristics.

To be imprisoned, to be ruled by a dictator or to lead a life of hardship.

As a citizen in a land,

You should respect the authoritative command.

'Cause the King resembles the top deity,

A nickname for Lao-Tze or Laotzu, the founder of Taoism.

Prayer for Injustice Removal:

Hopefully, you might get a promotion in Heaven.

Holding such a position, you can chat with Buddha and Laotzu often.

Lão giáo

Chinese: 老敎

Taoism, a Chinese philosophy based on the writings of Laotzu (6th century BC). According to Caodaism, it is one of the three major religions (Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism) to be united in the Third Amnesty.

Lão Quân

Chinese: 老君

Another name for Lao-Tze or Laotzu, the founder of Taoism.

In the Ideal Palace, Laotzu holds a reception,

Where the spirit gets the Longevity Book from the Sage Association.

There the green light is so bright.

The happy spirit is ready to leave for God at a great height.

Lão Tô (Tô Đông Pha)

Chinese: 老蘇 (蘇東坡)

Su Shi (1037–1101), also known as Su Tungpo, was a famous Chinese writer, poet, painter, calligrapher, pharmacologist, gastronome, and a statesman of the Song dynasty.

Phong thần đừng tưởng chuyện mờ hồ,

Giữa biển ai từng gặp Lão Tô?

Mượn thế đặng toan phương giác thế,

Fengshen is not as legendary as you thought,

Who ever met Su Tungpo on the high seas?

Trying to enlighten humans with the worldly means

Like what historian Hồ recorded for history.

Legends may turn out to be true later on,

Don't be so sure about your idea of what is going on.

Honesty can be used to enlighten humans

Like true facts recorded by honest historians.

Lão Trang

Chinese: 老莊

Lão: Lao tzu, Chinese philosopher, considered the founder of Taoism.

Trang: Chuang Tzu, Lao Tzu's disciple, considered the developer of Taoism.

Lão Trang commonly refers to philosophical Taoism.

Lão Tử

Chinese: 老子

Laozi, Laotzu, Lao-Tze or Lao Tzu, an ancient Chinese philosopher and poet. He is said to be the author of the Tao Te Ching and the founder of philosophical Taoism. He is also respected as a deity in religious Taoism and traditional Chinese religions.

Caodaists think Laozi is the supreme leader of Taoism, one of the three major religions to be united in the Third Amnesty. Li Bai, a Chinese poet, is said to be the representative of Taoism as well as the Supreme Leader of Caodaism.

Thánh Ngôn Hiệp Tuyển:

Tà chánh, cười... Bần Ðạo nói thiệt, cũng chưa dám định đoạt. Trong cái rủi thường có sự may; trong cái may vẫn khép cầm sự rủi, khó lường được, điều cần là nên làm mà thôi. Nếu luận tà chánh, thì chưa một ai dám còn mang mắt phàm xưng tụng mình là chánh. Cái tà, vì Thiên thơ xử dụng, tà vì cơ thử thách của Tam Giáo Tòa; tà vì những quỉ xác ma hồn lẫn lộn của quỉ vương để làm cho công phu lỡ dở. Mỗi cái tà có duyên cớ ấy, ngày sau đều có sự biến đổi thiêng liêng, hoặc có một kết quả. Ngày chung qui, chỉ đem về Thầy một chữ tâm và những công nghiệp đã gây thành cho sanh chúng.

The Collection of Divine Messages:

As for True or False (laughing), honestly, I can hardly affirm which side is good. Misfortune always contains fortune and vice versa. It's unpredictable, so just naturally take what you need! As a result, nobody in the material world dare claim that his/her idea is true! There are "false" used by the divine law, by deities as a challenge, by the Evil to hinder your religious practice. Every causal "false" will result in something divinely. Finally, what you have to bring back to God is only your heart and merits.

Lạy

To kowtow.

Thánh Ngôn Hiệp Tuyển:

"Lạy là gì? là tỏ ra bề ngoài lễ kỉnh trong lòng.

Chấp hai tay lại là sao? Tả là Nhựt, hữu là Nguyệt, vị chi Âm Dương. Âm Dương hiệp nhứt phát khởi Càn Khôn, sanh sanh hóa hóa, tức là Đạo.

* Lạy kẻ sống thì 2 lạy là tại sao? là nguồn cội của nhơn sanh lưỡng hiệp Âm Dương mà ra. Ấy là Đạo.

* Vong phàm lạy 4 lạy là tại sao? là vì 2 lạy của phần người, còn 1 lạy Thiên, 1 lạy Địa.

* Lạy Thần, lạy Thánh thì 3 lạy là tại sao? là lạy Đấng vào hàng thứ ba của Trời, và cũng chỉ rằng lạy Tinh, Khí, Thần hiệp nhứt. Ấy là Đạo.

* Lạy Tiên, lạy Phật 9 lạy là tại sao? là tại 9 Đấng Cửu Thiên Khai Hóa.

* Còn lạy Thầy 12 lạy là tại sao?

Các con không biết đâu ! Thập nhị Khai Thiên là Thầy, Chúa cả CKTG, nắm trọn Thập nhị Thời Thần vào tay. Số 12 là số riêng của Thầy."

The Collection of Divine Messages:

"Why kowtow? To show your sincere respect to someone.

Why join hands? Left is the sun; right is the moon, meaning Yin and Yang, which unite to create the universe and start the process of transformation. That is Đạo.

Why two kowtows to a person? Because that means the united Yin and Yang, the origin of humans.

Why four kowtows to a dead person? Two for that person and the rest for Heaven and Earth.

Why three kowtows to an Angel and a Saint? Because they are the Third Highest in Heaven. Additionally, you show respect to the combination of Tinh, Khí, Thần (body, mind and soul). That also means Đạo.

Why nine kowtows to an Immortal or a Buddha? Because they belong to Cửu Thiên Khai Hóa.

And why twelve kowtows to Me (God)?

You don't know, do you? I am Thập nhị Khai Thiên, King of the universe. I control the Twelve Lords of Time. Twelve is My own number."

His Holiness Hộ Pháp's Sermon:

Due to the feeling of sympathy and sorrow for the misfortunes of the poor, (He) has to give up all of the previous good deeds and choose to be exiled to the miserable world.

To prevent moral and able people from contributing to the society.

Hãy có dạ kỉnh già thương khó,

Chớ đem lòng lấp ngõ tài hiền.

Remorse Prayer:

Sympathize with the poor and pay respect to the elderly.

Don't prevent moral and able people from contributing to society.

To the disabled, you need to be sympathetic.

And, please, support the orphans and underprivileged.

To earn karmic merit and to make amends for the previous wrongdoings.

Hurry up! Follow the true religion to earn karmic merits and to make amends for the previous wrongdoings. At last, you will be freed from all sorrow.

According to Caodaism, to do charity work, a person has to join the Caodaist Philanthropic Body.

Thuyết Ðạo của Ðức Phạm Hộ Pháp:

"Lập vị mình theo Thập nhị đẳng cấp thiêng liêng, tức là theo Hội Thánh Phước Thiện. Nơi đây, ngoài việc ăn chay, giữ gìn luật đạo, tùng theo chơn pháp của Đức Chí Tôn, còn phải dùng đức để lập vị mình.

Muốn lập đức, phải đi từ Minh Đức, Tân Dân, Thính Thiện, Hành Thiện, Giáo Thiện, Chí Thiện, v.v...

Lập đức là gì? là dùng sự thương yêu để cứu độ chúng sanh, mà Đức Chí Tôn đã có nói: "Sự thương yêu là chìa khóa mở cửa Bạch Ngọc Kinh" là vậy đó.

Các đẳng chơn hồn tái kiếp đang chơi vơi trong Tứ Khổ. Muốn thoát khổ, họ phải thọ khổ, có thọ khổ mới thắng khổ.

Người tu đi theo Thập nhị đẳng cấp thiêng liêng là dạy người ta thọ khổ để thắng khổ. Muốn dạy người ta thọ khổ, trước hết mình phải thọ khổ đã. Muốn thọ khổ thì không gì hay bằng dùng đức thương yêu. Cho nên bậc thứ nhứt của Thập nhị đẳng cấp thiêng liêng là Minh Đức đó vậy.

Có thương yêu mới thọ khổ được. Ta thương cha mẹ ta, ta mới chịu khổ mà bảo dưỡng cha mẹ lúc tuổi già, ta thương con ta, ta mới lo tảo lo tần nuôi nó khôn lớn, ta thương những người cô thế tật nguyền, ta mới tầm phương giúp đỡ họ, mà tầm phương giúp đỡ họ là ta thọ khổ đó vậy.

Thọ khổ rồi mới thắng khổ. Thọ khổ không phải một ngày một bữa, mà phải thọ đến nơi đến chốn, nghĩa là nuôi cha mẹ cho đến tuổi già, lo cho con từ bé cho tới lúc nó tự lo cho nó được. Hai điều đó còn dễ, đến lo cho thiên hạ hết khổ mới khó, vì khi lo cho người nầy thì lại đến người khác, và cứ như vậy, trọn kiếp sanh mới gọi là thắng khổ.

Có thắng khổ mới về được với Đức Chí Tôn bằng con đường Thập nhị đẳng cấp thiêng liêng."

His Holiness Hộ Pháp's Sermon:

"Joining the Caodaist Philanthropic Body, you will attain one of the Twelve Divine Ranks. As a dignitary in the body, you have to do charity work in order to achieve your status besides being a vegan, observing Caodaist law and following God's teachings. The Twelve Divine Ranks include: Minh Đức, Tân Dân, Thính Thiện, Hành Thiện, Giáo Thiện, Chí Thiện, Đạo Nhơn, Chơn Nhơn, Hiền Nhơn, Thánh Nhơn, Tiên Tử, Phật Tử.

So, what is lập đức? That is save people with your compassion. According to God, compassion is the key to enter Bạch Ngọc Kinh (the White Jade Palace).

Humans are now suffering because of the Four Categories of Sorrow. To escape those, they have to suffer first before winning them.

The dignitaries of the Caodaist Philanthropic Body are responsible for teaching people how to suffer in order to win all sorrow. Therefore, they themselves have to suffer first. The best way is compassion. That's why the first rank of the Twelve Divine Ranks is Minh Đức.

Compassion helps overcome the hardship of taking care of your old parents, your children, the underprivileged or the disabled.

Having suffered, you know how to overcome sorrow. The experience should last your entire life, not some days. If you can do so, you can unite with God."

Lê văn Trung (1876 - 1934)

Mr. Lê văn Trung, one of the first twelve God's disciples, who was very instrumental in the establishment, development and expansion of Caodaism.

Before entering the priesthood, he was a politician famous for his public service. In 1911, he had a progressive idea: to build the first girl school in Saigon to promote gender equality. He, together with other philanthropists, built Collège des Jeunes Filles, commonly dubbed Trường Áo Tím and later changed into Trường Nữ Trung Học Gia Long (after 1975 it was changed to Nguyễn thị Minh Khai).

He was awarded Chevalier de la Légion d' Honneur by the French government in 1912 and promoted to the member of Conseil du Gouvernement de l'Indochine.

On January 11th 1926, he converted to Caodaism.

On April 22nd 1926, he was divinely ordained as Đầu Sư with Caodaist name Thượng Trung Nhựt.

On November 22nd 1930, His Holiness Giáo Tông Li Bai (the Heavenly Giáo Tông) granted him the title Giáo Tông Hữu Hình (the Earthly Giáo Tông). That is why Caodaists call him the Acting

Giáo Tông.

2. Hai là cầu khẩn với Đức Đại Từ Bi tha thứ tội tình cho các em và cả chúng sanh.

3. Ba là có tế lễ thì tâm phải có cảm, cảm rồi mới ứng, ứng là lẽ tự nhiên.

4. Bốn là tâm có cảm thì lòng bác ái mới mở rộng, mà nhứt là khiếu lương tri lương năng của các em cũng nhờ đó mà lần hồi thành ra mẫn huệ. Các em nhớ à!

The Collection of Divine Messages: (Avalokistesvara Buddha)

Brothers and sisters, you'd better perform religious rites more often.

First, you'll be close to heavenly beings, so your soul become more illuminated.

Second, it's an opportunity to pray to God for forgiveness.

Third, frequent rite performances will make you more sensitive.

Fourth, the more sensitive you are, the more charity you have. Especially, your conscience will gradually become stronger.

Traditionally, in Asia, the 23rd of lunar month 11 is believed to be when the Kitchen God reports to the Jade Emperor. Caodaists, however, consider it Lễ đưa chư Thần Thánh Tiên Phật triều Thiên, that is all deities report to God for a General Convention.

“Chơn truyền buổi Ðức Chí Tôn tạo Càn Khôn Thế Giái, Ngài nắm Thập Thiên Can, Thập Nhị Ðịa Chi trong tay, để định Pháp Chánh Càn Khôn Vũ trụ. Trong thời buổi định Pháp Chánh ấn định vào khoảng từ ngày 23 đến 30 sáng mồng 1, họp tại Ngọc Hư Cung đặng định luật giới hạn vi diệu cho trái địa cầu, chạy theo khuôn khổ hữu định trong năm cho chí Tân niên là 12 giờ đêm 30, khởi điểm 1 giờ sáng ngày 1 tháng Giêng năm sau."

His Holiness Hộ-Pháp's Sermon:

"It is traditionally believed that during the Creation, God set up the Divine Constitution of the Universe with the Ten Heavenly Stems and the Twelve Earthly Branches. From 23rd lunar month 12 to 1st lunar month 1 is the General Convention in Ngọc Hư Cung (Heavenly Court) to determine what the earth should be in the coming year".

Caodai's Inauguration Day

CHÙA GÒ KÉN

The place where Caodai's Inauguration Day took place.

After the Declaration of Caodaism had been handed over to the French government, God is said to have ordered that the inauguration be held in Từ Lâm Tự, Gò Kén (Tây Ninh) on 15th lunar month 10, Year of the Tiger.

All dignitaries and followers from many parts of the country gathered for the day. Mr. Lê văn Trung, on behalf of the followers, invited the Governor of Cochichina and other senior governmental officials to attend the ceremony.

The ceremony had been scheduled for three days, but it actually lasted three months because lots of visitors came.

Tuy vẫn đã biết, lúc Thầy lập Pháp Chánh Truyền, thì Thầy dạy hành lễ dường ấy mặc dầu, là bởi lễ nghi phong hóa nhà Nam ta buộc phải vậy, chớ Lễ Sanh mà đối chức “Anh” ( Frère ) của Thánh Giáo, thì phận sự cao trọng của Chức Sắc ấy là dường nào.

Footnote to Caodaist Constitution:

When God created Caodaist Constitution, a Lễ Sanh is described as the one who conducts a Caodaist rite. That is because God wanted to respect Vietnamese traditional etiquette. Actually, a Lễ Sanh is equal to a Brother of the Roman Catholic Church, who holds a very important religious position.

When Hộ Pháp asked Giáo Tông about the Caodaist hierarchy, he said male and female dignitaries of the same rank had equal power. As for the etiquette, he said a lower-ranking male dignitary had to obey a higher-ranking female dignitary and a lower-ranking male dignitary had to greet a higher-ranking female dignitary first.

Rites and music.

Rites and music play an important role in Caodaist activities. That is why God, through divine messages, taught His disciples rites and music in the early stage of Caodaism.

The concept of rites in Caodaism is based on Confucianism and the music played in all Caodaist rites is traditional Vietnamese music.

Đức Thượng Sanh Cao Hoài Sang:

Cái hay của Lễ là làm cho có sự cung kính, giữ trật tự phân minh. Cái hay của Nhạc là tạo sự điều hòa khiến cho tâm tánh tao nhã. Nhạc và Lễ phải dung hòa với nhau thì mới được hoàn toàn, vì nếu có Lễ mà không có Nhạc thì người ta đối xử với nhau phân biệt, mất tình thân ái; còn có Nhạc mà không có Lễ thì thành ra thiếu trật tự, khinh lờn nhau.

Vậy có Lễ tức phải có Nhạc để kềm chế nhau cho có điều hòa và phân biệt.

Đức Khổng Tử tin sự dùng Lễ Nhạc có công hiệu rất lớn, nên Ngài nói rằng: "Quân tử minh ư Lễ Nhạc, cử nhi thố chi nhi dĩ." có nghĩa là: người quân tử biết rõ Lễ Nhạc, chỉ đem thi thố ra là đủ. Vì Lễ thì khiến sự hành vi bên ngoài, Nhạc thì khiến tâm tình bên trong. Cái cực điểm của Nhạc là hòa, cái cực điểm của Lễ là thuận. Nếu bên trong mà tính tình điều hòa, bên ngoài sự hành vi thuận hợp nghĩa lý, thì cái tà tâm vọng niệm thế nào còn chen vào được lòng người ta nữa.

His Holiness Thượng Sanh Cao Hoài Sang:

Rites create deep reverence and keep order. Music creates moderation, which in turn makes people gentle. Rites must harmoniously combine with music. Without music, there is social discrimination of all kinds. Without rites, society is in complete disorder. Therefore, a combination between rites and music is a must for any societies.

Confucius attaches great importance to rites and music, so he said "Gentlemen understand what rites and music are, so they just perform them". Rites affect behaviors; music influences emotions. Music creates harmony; rites creates peace. If you always have moderate views and behave properly, no evil comes to your mind anymore.

Lễ Sanh

Chinese: 禮生

A Rite Student, a dignitary, who is higher than Chánh Trị Sự, but lower than Giáo Hữu. According to Caodaist Act signed by Lý Giáo Tông and Phạm Hộ Pháp, Lễ Sanh can be a Đầu Tộc Đạo, leading Caodaists in a district or town. The number of Lễ Sanh is not limited.

Lễ sính

Chinese: 禮聘

A wedding ceremony, in which the groom and his family come to the bride's house with presents for a ceremony. Then both come back to the groom's house.

In a Caodaist rite, when the rite announcer sings out this phrase, the bell is struck three times then all attendants bow three times and leave.

The offerings to God the Father, God the Mother and other deities are flowers, wine and tea in Caodaism. These symbolizes the three Human Jewels (body, mind and soul).

Caodaist Department of Rites, one of the nine departments, which are the central administration of Caodaism. This Department is responsible for the instructions on how to perform all of Caodaist rites. A Ngọc Phối Sư is assigned to be the leader of the department.

The Collection of Divine Messages:

Thơ, have the tomb tower for Thượng Phẩm built in front of the three-branch tree. It should face west as if it looks at the temple to wait on Me. Its roof should look like that of a Chinese pagoda.

The tower shouldn't be patterned after that of Bảo Ðạo because of their distinct titles. Pillars should be built around the Octagonal Tower and there should be a hole in the middle for sunlight to reach the coffin.

A Chinese or Vietnamese distich or couplet, usually hung in a hall or on the gate of a temple. The two lines of poetry always refer to certain theme or purpose.

The couplet usually seen on the gate of a Caodaist Holy House is said to be granted by Li Bai, the famous Chinese poet and the Caodaist Supreme Leader.

CAO thượng Chí Tôn Đại Đạo hòa bình dân chủ mục,

Lotus flower.

According to the Caodaist Constitution, female Giáo Hữu and Lễ Sanh both wear a lotus flower in their hair, but the former wear a lotus flower with the Divine Eye in the middle while the latter wear a lotus flower only.

The divine lotus. A kind of heavenly vehicle that is believed to be the means of transportation for people after death.

Spiritual, unearthly, supernatural.

Linh quang

Chinese: 靈光

1. God's light or Yang light.

Khi Chí Tôn đem Dương quang ấm áp mà làm cho hóa sanh, thì cái khoảnh Âm quang phải thối trầm làm tinh đẩu, là cơ quan sanh hóa vạn linh.

Song lằn Âm quang ấy có giới hạn, nghĩa là nơi nào ánh linh quang của Chí Tôn chưa chiếu giám đến thì phải còn tối tăm mịt mờ, chẳng sanh chẳng hóa.

The Collection of Divine Messages:

When God created the universe with His warm Yang light, the Yin light descended and changed into dead planets. However, the Yin light just covers a limited area, where there is no Yang light or living activities.

2. A human soul.

Vậy Thầy khuyên các con, đứa nào có trí lực bao nhiêu khá đem ra thi thố, chớ đừng sụt sè theo thói nữ nhi, vậy cũng uổng điểm linh quang của Thầy ban cho các con lắm.

Loạn hàng thất thứ

Chinese: 亂行失次

Chaos, pandemonium, confusion.

Pháp Chánh cốt yếu lập quyền cho con cái Đức Chí Tôn, có hàng phẩm quyền hành, thứ tự đẳng cấp, giao cho Hiệp Thiên Đài sắp đặt, không cho loạn hàng thất thứ. Nếu loạn hàng thất thứ thì Đạo bị tiêu diệt.

His Holiness Hộ Pháp's Sermon:

The Caodaist Constitution, which chiefly grants religious authority to Caodaist dignitaries, is assigned to Hiệp Thiên Đài (the Caodaist Judiciary Body) in order to prevent chaos. Chaos will eradicate Caodaism.

Loạn thần

Chinese: 亂臣賊子

The mental confusion.

Vậy thì óc là nguồn cội của Khí, mà óc cũng bị huyết vận động vô chừng làm cho đến đỗi loạn tán đi, thì chơn thần thế nào đặng an tịnh điều khiển, thân thể phải ra ngây dại, trở lại chất thú hình, mất phẩm nhơn loại rồi, còn mong chi đặng phẩm Thần, Thánh, Tiên, Phật.

Lại nữa, buổi loạn thần ấy, để cửa trống cho Tà mị xung đột vào, giục các con làm việc tội tình mà phải chịu phận luân hồi muôn kiếp.

Vậy, Thầy cấm các con uống rượu, nghe à! Thăng

The Collection of Divine Messages:

Consequently, the brain, which is the origin of your mind, is thrown into confusion because of extremely active circulation, so you won't be calm enough to control your behaviors. Becoming as foolish as an animal, you cannot be considered a human, much less higher-ranking deities.

What's more, in such a state, evil power can penetrate and tempt you into committing a sin, which keeps you in transmigration forever.

Therefore, you mustn't drink alcohol!

LONG

Long đong

To have an unsettled life.

Kinh Sám Hối:

Làm người nhơn nghĩa trả xong,

Rủi cho gặp lúc long đong chẳng sờn

Remorse Prayer:

As a human, try to be righteous and kind

Though you experience an unsettled life.

Long Hoa (Hội Long Hoa)

Chinese: 會龍花

The Dragon and Flower Competition (literally translated), that is the Last Judgement.

According to Caodaism, there have been three Amnesties. The First Amnesty (Judge: Dipankara Ancient Buddha), the Second Amnesty (Judge: Amitabha Buddha) and the Third Amnesty (Judge: Meiytra Buddha). After that will be the Era of Ethics, when there are only moral human beings.

Thuyết đạo của Đức Phạm Hộ Pháp:

"Long Hoa Hội là gì? Long Hoa Hội là một ngày, một buổi khảo lựa của toàn thể các chơn hồn dầu quỉ vị hay Thần vị cũng vậy, định khoa mục của mình đặng lập vị thiêng liêng.

Chúng ta hiểu rằng, mỗi Chuyển tức nhiên là mỗi khoa mục. Hễ cuối một Chuyển, tức nhiên Hạ Nguơn, là ngày định vị của các đẳng linh hồn. Thánh giáo Gia Tô đã nói rằng: Ngày Xét Đoán cuối cùng (Jugement Général) mà kỳ thật là ngày định vị cho các chư Phật đó vậy.

Có một điều trọng hệ đương buổi nầy là buổi náo nhiệt. Tại sao? Tại mãn Hạ Nguơn Tam Chuyển, Thiên thơ đã định Long Hoa Hội.

Thánh giáo Đức Chí Tôn nói: Các con phải chung cùng nhau, tức nhiên lập Long Hoa Hội, định vị cho các chơn linh trong kỳ Hạ Nguơn Tam Chuyển nầy, định vị cho họ đặng mở Thượng Nguơn Tứ Chuyển cho các chơn linh.

Ngài mở Hội Long Hoa ấy, tức nhiên là Ngài định chấm đậu rớt cho các chơn linh vậy. Vì cớ cho nên chúng ta ngó thấy có huyền vi bí mật nơi mặt thế nầy: Đức Chí Tôn đến mở Đạo ngày nay, chúng ta có thấy oan gia nghiệt chướng phải trả liền buổi nầy, không cho thiếu, trả mãn mới thôi."

His Holiness Hộ Pháp's Sermon:

"What is Long Hoa Hội? It's a competition for both evil and divine spirits to attain their heavenly statuses.

It's understood that the end of a Chuyển is a competition. Christianity calls it the Last Judgement, which, actually, is the ordination of all Buddhas.

The important thing is it's very exciting these days. Why? Because it's the end of the Third Chuyển, and Heavenly Law decides to hold Long Hoa Hội.

God tells us to cooperate in organizing Long Hoa Hội in order to ordain the spirits before the Fourth Chuyển.

God will decide either to ordain or to fail a spirit. That's why God established Caodaism to teach humans that you have to pay off what you owed in previous incarnations."

Long Hoa Thị

Chinese: 龍花市

Long-Hoa market.

His Holiness Phạm Hộ Pháp had this market built 2km south of Caodai Temple in 1952 because lots of Caodaist followers rushed to the area due to the escalation of war at that time.

It was His Holiness Phạm Hộ Pháp who chose the tract of land, designed and gave instructions on how to build it.

Long mã phụ Hà đồ

Chinese: 龍馬負河圖

The Dragon Horse carrying the Yellow River Map.(lit.)

Longma or the Dragon Horse, a winged horse with dragon scales in Chinese mythology, is said to have appeared from the Yellow River. Fu Xi, a legendary King, saw the markings on its back (also called the Yellow River Map) and created the arrangement of the trigrams called the Earlier Heaven Bagua.

On the roof of the Cao Dai Central Temple is Nghinh Phong Đài (Wind Tower), where there is the sculpture of the Dragon Horse running on the earth (called the 68th earth by Caodaists). The Dragon Horse is running from the East to the West, but looking backwards, which is believed to be a mysterious prophecy.

In various Caodaist ceremonies, a Dragon Horse Dance is usually performed to remind believers of the prophecy.

Long Tu Phiến

Chinese: 龍鬚扇

The Dragon Beard Fan.

Traditionally, in Asia all deities are believed to have a Divine Tool, which has the power to destroy evil spirits. In Caodaism, the Dragon Beard Fan is considered Thượng Phẩm's Divine Tool.

Long Tu Phiến có thể vận chuyển Càn Khôn Vũ Trụ do nguơn khí đào độn sanh ra đó vậy. Nó có quyền đào độn nguơn khí, thâu hoạch nguơn khí để trong sanh lực.

His Holiness Hộ Pháp's Sermon:

The Dragon Beard Fan, which is able to control the universe, is made by the primeval energy. It can produce and absorb primeval energy for vitality.

Long Tuyền Kiếm

Chinese: 龍泉劍

Long Yuan sword, one of the most famous ancient Chinese swords. Traditionally, it was made by Ou Yezi, a legendary master of sword-making in the Spring and Autumn Period.

In Caodaism, this sword is mentioned in a narrative related to His Holiness Hộ Pháp. In a seance the Eighth Female Buddha told Hộ Pháp that the Chinese had put a hex on Vietnam by burying the Long Yuan sword in Phú Mỹ village, Mỹ Tho province, Vietnam. The Chinese always wanted to prevent Vietnam from developing and believed the Long Yuan sword would kill all Vietnamese talents, if any. Under divine instructions, His Holiness Hộ Pháp came to the place and had the sword dug out. This action is believed to end the hex.

Long vân

Chinese: 龍雲

A dragon in a cloud. This phrase refers to an academic competition in the past to select talented persons to serve the country.

Cầu khẩn đấng Chơn linh nhập thể,

Đủ thông minh học lễ học văn.

May duyên gặp hội Long Vân,

Thuyền thơ ngọn gió Các Đằng xuôi đưa

Prayer before class:

I pray to the Holy Spirit in heaven.

Please grant me enough intelligence.

Then when there is a competition

I can prove that I have enough talent.

Long vị

Chinese: 龍位

A plaque, a memorial tablet.

In Vietnamese, a plaque for an ordinary person is called bài vị and for an official or king it is called long vị.

In a Caodaist Holy House, there are eight plaques put on the altar.

God the Mother still keeps loyalty,

Being concerned about how safe Her children will be.

Chinese: 魯班

Lu Ban, an ancient Chinese carpenter, engineer, and inventor, who is regarded as the patron saint of Chinese builders and contractors. Traditionally, he is said to have been good at putting a hex on others.

In Caodaism, through automatic writing, he showed His Holiness Hộ Pháp how to dig out the Long Yuan sword. (See: Long Tuyền Kiếm)

Lôi Âm Cổ Đài

Chinese: 雷音鼓臺

The Thunder Drum Tower.

On each side of the facade of the Caodaist Central Temple is a high tower. The right one is the Thunder Drum Tower and the other is the White Jade Bell Tower. The drum is named thunder because it is large and can produce the sounds like "thunder".

Thuyết Đạo Đức Hộ Pháp:

Có nhiều Hội Giáo đã lập thành có trót trăm năm trước khi mở Ðạo, đặng dạy lần cho vạn quốc rõ thấu Chánh Truyền; ngày nay Thầy mới đến lập một cái Cao Ðài, nghĩa là đền thờ cao hay là đức tin lớn tại thế nầy (la haute église ou la plus grande foi du monde) làm nên nền Ðạo; lại mượn một sắc dân hèn hạ nhỏ nhít của hướng Á Ðông là Annam ta, đặng cho trọn lời tiên tri “Ðạo xuất ư Ðông” và cho trúng Thánh ý chiều lụy hạ mình của Thầy, lập thành Hội Thánh, làm hình thể Thiêng Liêng của Thầy, hầu cầm cho đặng dùi trống Lôi Âm giục giọng truy hồn, nắm cho chặt chày chuông Bạch Ngọc đặng trổi hơi định tánh, làm cho cả con cái của Thầy thức tỉnh, nhìn Thầy mà trở về quê cũ.

His Holiness Hộ Pháp's Sermon:

Lots of religions established some hundred years ago have preached God's word. Now the Master came, creating the High Tower or the great belief in the world. He chose the Vietnamese, a humble people in Southeast Asia, to fit the prophecy "Tao comes from the East", to express His modesty and to organize Caodaism, His Visible Body. This Sacerdotal Council will strike the Thunder Drum and the White Jade Bell to wake up all of His children. It's high time they came back to Him!

Lôi Âm Tự

The Thunder Pagoda, in the World of Ultimate Bliss.

Đức Phạm Hộ Pháp thuyết đạo:

"Đêm nay, Bần đạo rủ cả thảy vô Lôi Âm Tự, cũng như Bần đạo đã đến trình diện với Đức Di-Đà. Bởi Đức Di-Đà đã giao quyền lại cho Đức Di-Lạc, giao quyền Chưởng quản CKVT, Đức Di-Lạc ngồi ngự nơi Kim Tự Tháp, còn Đức Di-Đà vào ngự nơi Lôi Âm Tự. Khi đến đó, chỉ học các triết lý Phật giáo từ tạo Thiên lập Địa tới giờ."

His Holiness Hộ Pháp's Sermon:

"Tonight, I'm talking about the Thunder Pagoda, where I reported to Amitabha Buddha. Remember that Meiytra Buddha had replaced Amitabha Buddha to reign the universe from the Pyramid. Entering the Thunder Pagoda, you will learn Buddhism, which has been preached since the Creation."

Lôi Âm Tự phá cổ

Chinese: 雷音寺破罟

The outdated law was nullified by the Thunder Pagoda. According to Caodaism, a lot of people have practiced a religion, but few have attained enlightenment because of this nullification. Now God came and created the new law so that it is easier to attain Buddhahood.

Thánh Ngôn Hiệp Tuyển:

Luật lệ tuy cũ chớ Đạo vẫn như nhiên, do công đức mà đắc đạo cùng chăng. Nhưng mà có một điều là Ngọc Hư Cung bác luật, Lôi Âm Tự phá cổ, nên tu nhiều mà thành ít.

The Collection of Divine Messages:

Despite outdated law, the principle remains the same, that is whether or not you attain enlightenment depends on how much merit you have earned. However, the trouble is Ngọc Hư Cung and Lôi Âm Tự have nullified the outdated law, so few people have attained enlightenment so far.

Lôi Công (Thiên Lôi, Lôi Thần)

Chinese: 雷公 - 部雷公

The Thunder God, considered the source of thunder and lightning. In Caodaism, the Chief Thunder God is Cửu Thiên Cảm Ứng Lôi Thinh Phổ Hóa Thiên Tôn.

Trừ quái khí roi thần chớp nhoáng,

Bộ Lôi Công giải tán trược quang.

Cửa lầu Bát Quái chun ngang,

Hỏa Tinh Tam muội thiêu tàn oan gia.

Evil power will be removed by the Divine Rod

And dirty energy will be eradicated by the Lightning God.

Where the Holy Fire burns down what is deplorable.

Lỗi thệ (thất thệ)

To break the entry oath.

Ðạo Luật năm Mậu Dần (1938):

Đối với các Chi phái do Đại Đạo lập thành mà phản loạn chơn truyền, ngày nay đã lỗi thệ cùng Thầy, thì xin Hội Thánh thể lòng đại từ đại bi của Chí Tôn, mở kỳ ân xá cho họ đặng nhập môn tái thệ.

Caodaist Act 1938:

For God's mercy, the Caodaist sects, who have not kept the entry oath or observed Caodaist Canonical Codes, will be allowed to retake the entry oath.

Lợi danh (Lợi quyền)

Chinese: 利名 - 利權

Fame and power.

Huỳnh lương một giấc cuộc đời in,

Có trí có mưu phải xét mình.

Phú quí lớn là giành với giựt,

Lợi danh cao bởi mượn và xin.

Biết số biết căn tua biết phận,

Life is too short to wander.

As a smart human, you've got to ponder.

Extravagant life is actually gained by stealing.

Fame is really earned by borrowing and begging.

A hundred-year life seems like a prison cell,

Where you must face your emotions by yourself.

Now that you know your fate is fixed,

Try to find the way back to the Land of Bliss.

Lợi khí

Chinese: 利器

Tool, device, means, instrument.

Chú giải Pháp Chánh Truyền:

Kẻ Ngoại Giáo, Tả Ðạo Bàng Môn, người vô đạo, riêng nắm quyền hành thế tục, nghịch cùng chơn lý Chánh Truyền; mượn thế lực phàm tục mà diệt lành dưỡng dữ, mê hoặc nhơn sanh, lưu luyến trần thế; trên không biết Trời, dưới không kỉnh đất; lấy người làm lợi khí đặng vụ tất công danh, quyền quyền thế thế: chẳng kiêng nể luân hồi, ham vật chất hơn tinh thần, lấy vinh hoa của kiếp sanh làm sở nguyện, như thú vật, cây cỏ, sắt đá, chỉ biết sống mà không biết sống để làm gì, còn không hay, mà mất cũng không biết. Vì vậy, thế cuộc phải tuần huờn, bầu nhơn sự phải luân chuyển vần xây, phiêu linh cho đến buổi nhơn loại được vẹn toàn.

Therefore, social and political situations have to change frequently and human resources have to be in good circulation until everyone becomes perfectly good.

Luân hồi

Chinese: 輪迴

Rebirth, transmigration, metempsychosis or reincarnation, the entering of a soul after death upon a new cycle of existence in a new body either of human or animal form.

According to Caodaism, a human is composed of three components: a physical body, a mind and a soul. After death, the physical body is decomposed into different material substances. The mind, together with the soul, returns to Heaven, where one is judged based on what he has done in his entire life. His merits, if any, earn himself a heavenly status while his sins cause him to reincarnate for compensation.

Generally, humans are trapped by what is called the cycle of transmigration because they usually commit more sins than they can compensate.

To escape from the cycle of transmigration, one should get religion in order not to commit sins anymore. Besides he can earn more karmic merits for his higher heavenly status.

Thánh Ngôn Hiệp Tuyển:

Thầy đã dạy, Thầy chỉ một lòng mơ ước cho các con biết thương yêu nhau trong Thánh đức của Thầy. Sự thương yêu là chìa khóa mở Tam thập lục Thiên, Cực Lạc Thế Giới và Bạch Ngọc Kinh. Kẻ nào ghét sự thương yêu, thì chẳng hề qua khỏi cửa luân hồi. Disciples, the only thing I always dream of is you love one another. Love is the key to enter the Thirty Six Heavens, the World of Ultimate Bliss and the White Jade Castle. Those who love not cannot escape from the cycle of transmigration. Additionally, I'll take care of the hardships for you. Just try to save as many people as you can.

Luân thường

Chinese: 倫常

The constant morals, norms.

Caodaists consider the Confucian morals the basic principles. They are the Three Bonds (ruler to ruled, father to son, husband to wife) and the Five Constants (humaneness, righteousness, proper rite, knowledge and integrity).

Thánh Ngôn Hiệp Tuyển:

Nền nhơn luân của con nhà Nam Việt chẳng lầm, mà tại các con hay nhiễm thường tình mà hư hoại, nên chi Thầy phải nhắc lại cho các con đừng lầm nữa, nghe các con!

Nam phái vào. Các con nghe cho rõ, thường ngày các con trông thấy những điều trái tai gai mắt, các con có biết vì tại sao chăng?

Như kẻ làm quan ỷ quyền hiếp bức dân lành, đứa ngu nghịch cha phản bạn, làm rối luân thường, các con có biết vì tại sao chăng?... Tại vô đạo

Disciples, it's never wrong to respect the Vietnamese constant morals. It's worldly ambition that ruins your ethical life. Therefore, I urge you not to forget that.

Enter, male disciples! Listen. Do you know why there's daily social injustice, for example governmental officials bully ordinary citizens, foolish children treat their father like dirt or constant morals are scorned? That's because of irreligiousness!

Chinese: 論辯

To reason, argue.

Judicial agent, the lowest-ranking dignitary in Caodaist Judiciary Body. Those who want to be a Judicial Agent have to pass an exam held by the Caodaist Sacerdotal Council.

The Eighth Female Buddha's Messages:

Disciples,

Tonight, I resume teaching esotericism.

To purify your body, you have to eliminate the six desires and the seven feelings. It is essential that you know what they are before you can eliminate them. It takes a long time to eliminate them because your soul is trapped as if an addict depends on drugs or a gambler is attracted by casinos. You should have an intense will power to get rid of them.

Now, let us discuss the six desires and the seven feelings. First, the six desires originate through a process in which lục căn (the six roots of sense) encounter lục trần (the six objects) then both of which generate lục thức (the six consciousnesses). After that, lục thức encounter lục trần, which generate lục dục or the six desires.

The six desires generate the seven feelings, which are joy, anger, love, hate, sorrow, satisfaction and desire. Desire is the most important. Those who can control their desire will become Buddhas, Saints or gods. Humans possess the seven priceless feelings, so they are superior to animals. The six desires and the seven feelings are both advantageous and disadvantageous because they can help people return to Heaven as well as push them into Hell. God permits humans to be superior to animals by granting humans the six desires and the seven feelings. Simultaneously, God grants humans a divine ray of light that helps them decide how to behave. Those who follow the instructions of the divine ray of light will go to Heaven; otherwise, they go to Hell. That divine ray of light is called conscience.

All human behaviors caused by the six desires and the seven feelings are judged by conscience. Conscience tells people whether those behaviors are right or wrong. Right behaviors lead the way to Heaven; wrong behaviors send people to Hell. Then, it is people who choose to do either the right or the wrong things. However, it is difficult to differentiate between right and wrong because they are so close to each other. You can easily be confused! Humans are superior to animals thanks to that tiny difference!

How do the six desires and the seven feelings turn humans into a life of vice? Through your eyes, you see the beauty of the material world then you grow so fond of it that you really want to possess it. Through your ears, you hear the pleasant sounds and then you really want them. Human desires and natural justice are opposed on each other. Natural justice is right; human desires are wrong. Natural justice is holy; human desires are sinful. They are undifferentiated and confusing. It is conscience that determines which is holy and which is sinful.

Consciousness represents your body and is controlled by conscience. Conscience represents your soul. Your soul needs your body because your body can act in the visible material world. Your earthly activities will decide your holy position in Heaven. Your body, however, is influenced by secular attractions so much that it is hard for your conscience to control your body’s actions.

Your soul is natural justice or holiness. It is difficult to tell whether something is holy or worldly. Holiness and worldliness or right and wrong mix well with each other. Sometimes holiness surpasses worldliness and vice versa.

Your conscience helps decide whether something is holy or sinful. Nevertheless, your consciousness may either obey or oppose your conscience. Therefore, if it obeys your conscience, your soul will fly off to Heaven. If it opposes, your soul may be banished to Hell. Heaven and hell, holiness and worldliness, blessedness and sin are differentiated by an extremely thin layer.

Chinese: 六道輪迴

Six categories of transmigration.

According to Buddhism, all humans are reincarnated in six categories depending on how good or how bad they were in previous lives.

1. Heaven (a saint)

2. A-Tu-La (a god)

3. The world (a human)

4. Hell (a sinner)

5. The evil world (a hungry ghost).

6. The world of animals (an animal).

Humans are trapped in this cycle of transmigration unless they attain Buddhahood.

Chinese: 六龍

Six dragons.

It is believed that a dragon is a sacred animal symbolizing Yang. I Ching's first hexagram is composed of six lines, meaning six dragons or qian (heaven), so six dragons are considered God 's means of transportation in ancient Chinese culture.

Thời thừa lục long,

Du hành bất tức.

Khí phân Tứ Tượng,

Hoát triền vô biên

Prayer to The Jade Emperor:

Always riding on the six dragons,

God travels around without interruption.

Qi changes into the Four Phenomena

And then keeps transforming forever.

Lục long phò ấn

Chinese: 六龍扶印

Six dragons supporting a seal.

In this phrase, "dragon" refers to a subterranean river. The whole phrase means six subterranean rivers meet, forming an intersection. Traditionally, the tract of land over this intersection is considered the Holy Land. Caodaist adherents believe the Caodaist Central Temple is located on such a tract of land.

Thánh Ngôn Hiệp Tuyển:

"Lão cắt nghĩa vì sao cuộc đất ấy là Thánh địa: Sâu hơn 300 thước, như con sông, giữa trung tim đất giáp lại trúng giữa sáu nguồn làm như sáu con rồng đoanh nhau, nguồn nước ấy trúng ngay đỉnh núi, gọi là Lục long phò ấn, ngay miếng đất đó đặng ba đầu: một đầu ra giếng mạch Ao Hồ, hai đầu nữa bên cụm rừng bên kia." Đức Lý Giáo Tông.

"I'll explain why the tract of land is the Holy Land. In the middle, at a depth of 300 meters, is the intersection of six subterranean rivers. This phenomenon is called "Six dragons supporting a seal". There are three outlets, one to Ao Hồ and the other two in the opposite forest." His Holiness Li Bai, the Caodaist Supreme Leader.

Lục Nương

Chinese: 六娘

The Sixth Lady or the Sixth Female Buddha, one of the Nine Female Buddhas, who assist God the Mother. It is said that in one of her incarnations, she was Jeanne d'Arc, the French national heroine and a Roman Catholic Saint. In another incarnation in Vietnam, she was a lady named HUỆ (also a flower), so the stanza for her ceremony begins with this word.

According to Caodaist Divine Messages, she is responsible for receiving the returning spirits in the Sixth Heaven, the Gold Heaven.

HUỆ ngào ngạt đưa hơi vò dịu,

Đứng tài ba chẳng thiếu tư phong.

Nương mây như thả cánh hồng,

Smelling the scent of HUỆ in a pleasant environment,

You'll see not only a beauty but also and talent.

In the clouds of the Gold Heaven,

Lục tặc

Chinese:六賊

The six robbers, that is six human desires (for beautiful shapes, pleasant sound, sweet smell, good flavor, gentle touching and flattering concept). According to Buddhism, those will prevent a person from attaining enlightenment. That is why they are called six robbers.

Thiếp mừng mấy em. Mấy em nghe à:

Ðạo quí là tại HÒA. Các em nghĩ thử mà coi, tạo Thiên lập Ðịa cũng bởi Âm Dương hòa hiệp sanh hóa muôn loài, cũng bởi một chữ Hòa, đến đỗi như thân của người có tạng có phủ, tạng phủ ấy nếu chẳng hòa thì con người chẳng hề sống bao giờ.

Kịp đến tâm hồn bất hòa thì thất tình lục dục đều phát khởi tranh ngôi với thần lương tâm, nếu kém lực thì con người ấy duy có sanh hoạt trong vòng vật dục, chớ chẳng hề biết Thiên lý là gì?

Brothers and sisters,

The key factor of religion is harmony. Think about it. Harmony led to the Creation of the universe. Your body cannot remain alive unless your internal organs are in harmony.

Additionally, if your mind is not in harmony, the six desires and seven feelings will crush your conscience. You are then so materialistic that you can ignore spiritual values. Needless to say, such a person cannot be respected!

One's immediate family.

Ancestors, parents, teachers, family members and relatives all become Buddhas.

Lục thập thất Địa cầu

Chinese: 六十七地球

The 67th earth.

Caodaists believe there are 72 earths, among which is the 68th earth, currently inhabited by human beings. The first earth is the most advanced and the least advanced, of course, is the 72nd.

Nó đặng phép thông công cùng Tam thập lục Thiên, Tam thiên thế giới, Lục thập thất Địa cầu, và Thập Điện Diêm Cung, đặng cầu rỗi cho các con. (Nó: Đức Chí Tôn gọi Đức Giáo Tông).

Caodaist Constitution:

He (Giáo Tông or the Caodaist Supreme Leader) is allowed to communicate with the Thirty Six Heavens, the Three Thousand Worlds, the Sixty Seven Earths and the Ten- Department Hell to pray for your deliverance.

Lục Tổ Huệ Năng

Chinese: 六祖慧能

Huệ Năng, Huineng (638–713), a Chinese Zen monastic, who is one of the most important figures in the entire tradition, according to standard Zen. Hoằng Nhẫn, Hongren (601-174), the Fifth Patriarch passed the robe and begging bowl as a symbol of the Dharma Seal of Sudden Enlightenment to Huineng. Therefore, Huineng has been viewed as the Sixth and Last Patriarch of Zen Buddhism.

Thần Tú, Shenxiu, another disciple of Hongren, also preached Buddhism in the North of China, but it is not considered true Buddhism.

Thánh Ngôn Hiệp Tuyển:

"Vốn từ Lục Tổ thì Phật giáo đã bị bế lại, cho nên tu hữu công mà thành thì bất thành, Chánh pháp bị nơi Thần Tú làm cho ra mất Chánh giáo, lập riêng pháp luật, buộc mối Đạo Thiền

Phép hành đạo của Phật giáo dường như ra sái hết, tương tợ như gần biến Tả Đạo Bàng Môn. Kỳ truyền đã thất, chư sơn chưa hề biết cái sai ấy do tại nơi nào, cứ ôm theo luật Thần Tú, thì đương mong mỏi về Tây phương mà cửa Tây phương vẫn cứ bị đóng, thì cơ thành chánh quả do nơi nào mà biết chắc vậy? Ta đã đến với huyền diệu nầy, thì từ đây ta cũng cho chư tăng dùng huyền diệu nầy mà học hỏi, ngày sau đừng đổ tội rằng vì thất học mà chịu thất kỳ truyền. Chư tăng từ đây chẳng đặng nói: Phật giả vô ngôn nữa."

"After the Sixth Patriarch's death, Buddhism was closed, so lots of people have practiced Buddhism in vain. The true doctrine was modified by Shenxiu with his own laws. As a result, Buddhism seems to change into a false doctrine. You monks still follow Shenxiu's laws without realizing whether they are correct. Like a person trying to go through a locked door without a proper key, you will get nowhere at all. I have come to teach you through this magical tool, so just use it for your studies. Don't ever say "Buddha teaches nothing".

Chinese: 六齋

The 6-day vegetarian plan.

New Caodaists can choose to practice vegetarianism six days a lunar month (on the 1, 8, 14, 15, 23, 29 or 30). When they are acquainted with having vegetarian food, they should start the 10-day plan. Caodaist dignitaries are required to be strictly vegetarian.

There are some differences between a follower who chooses the 6-day plan and that of the 10-day plan, especially in their funerals. The former's funeral is less elaborate than the latter's.

Thầy lấy làm không bằng lòng cho mấy đứa vắng mặt hôm nay.

Ngày giờ thôi thúc mà các con còn dụ dự giữa chừng. Nền Ðạo cao thâm là mấy, chí phàm không thấu lý sâu, nếu các con chẳng ra khỏi vòng trần tục thì các con chẳng là luống công theo Thầy kể đã đầy năm.

Disciples, I am not satisfied that some disciples can't make it tonight. Time flies, but you just hesitate! You really don't realize how profound the doctrine is. It's a waste of your effort to have learned from Me for almost a year if you are still so materialistic.

Captivity, imprisonment, punishment.

Prayer for Deliverance:

The Ten Lords of Hell feel so pity

For the sinners who are in extreme misery.

So they try to lessen the punishment,

And forgive the spirits for bad things they had done.

Then the spirits can go straight to paradise,

Where they can stay calm and think twice.

Luyến trần

Chinese: 戀塵

To be enthralled by the worldly life.

Thánh Ngôn Hiệp Tuyển:

Nguồn Tiên, đạo Thánh dìu bước nhơn sanh tránh tội lỗi, lìa nẻo vạy, bước đường ngay, mà lần vào nơi Cực Lạc an nhàn, rừng tòng suối lặng, động thẳm non xanh, để mình vào bực thanh cao, thoát khỏi chốn luân hồi ràng buộc. Ai mau bước đặng nhờ thân, ai luyến trần cam chịu khổn.

The saintly doctrine helps humans avoid committing sins, taking the right path to free themselves from the cycle of metempsychosis. Those who are enthralled by the worldly life have to suffer for good.

Luyện đạo (tu chơn)

Chinese: 練道

To practice esoteric religious exercises or esotericism.

Bát Nương Nữ Phật dạy về luyện đạo:

Luyện Đạo là con đường thứ ba của Đại-Đạo. Con đường thứ nhất là đi theo Hội-Thánh Cửu-Trùng-Đài, phổ-độ chúng sanh, lập công với Đức CHÍ-TÔN để về với Đức CHÍ-TÔN sau khi chết.

Con đường thứ hai là đi theo Hội-Thánh Phước- Thiện, lo nuôi sống thi hài chúng sanh, lập đức với Đức CHÍ-TÔN để về với Đức CHÍ-TÔN sau khi chết.

Con đường thứ ba là con đường tu chơn do Hội- Thánh Hiệp-Thiên-Đài dìu dắt. Con đường này dành cho những vị nào có tiền căn cao trọng, theo đó mà luyện Đạo để về với Đức CHÍ-TÔN trước khi chết.

Teachings of The Eighth Female Buddha on Esotericism:

Esoteric practice is Cao Dai believers’ third approach to return to Heaven. You can also take the first approach - that is, joining Cửu Trùng Đài to do missionary work that helps you return to God “after” your death.

The second approach is joining Phước Thiện to do charity work. This way also provides you with a good path to unite with God “after” you die.

The third approach is practicing esotericism under the instructions from Hiệp Thiên Đài. Only a few people with highly righteous root can take this approach to return to God “before” they die.

Luyện kỷ tu thân

Chinese: 練己修身

To reform, reclaim, regenerate oneself.

Đức Hộ Pháp

* Phương Luyện Kỷ đặng vào con đường thứ ba Đại Đạo:

Phải biết thân thích cùng cả nhơn vật, tức là tìm nguyên do của Vạn linh cùng Chí Linh.

Phải ân hậu và khoan hồng.

Phải thanh nhàn, đừng vị kỷ.

Phải bình tỉnh, nghĩa là đừng chịu ảnh hưởng của họa phước, buồn vui (tập tánh không không đừng nhiễm, vui cũng vui, buồn cũng buồn, nhưng đừng để nọc buồn vui thấm vào chơn tánh).

Phải độ lượng, khoan dung, tha thứ.

Phải vui vẻ điều hòa, tự chủ và quyết đoán.

Giữ linh tâm làm căn bổn.

Hiếu hạnh với Chí Tôn và Phật Mẫu.

* Phương pháp trị tâm vì tâm là hình ảnh thiên lương.

Đức tin và khôn ngoan là kho chí bửu, ngoài ra là của bỏ là đồ vô giá.

Ai đã cố oán kẻ thù của mình thì khó giữ thanh tâm công chánh cho đặng.

Ai chẳng oán hận mới thắng đặng kẻ thù nghịch cùng mình.

Sự cừu hận là khối thảm khổ đệ nhứt của nhơn sanh, nên người hiền thì không biết đến hay là từ bỏ cừu hận oán ghét.

Thắng đặng khí nộ mình thì không chọc ai giận dữ.

Lấy thiện mà trừ ác.

Lấy nhơn nghĩa trừ bạo tàn.

Lấy lòng quảng đại đặng mở tâm lý hẹp hòi.

Lấy chánh trừ tà.

Ấy là đường thương huệ kiếm.

* Luyện thân Luyện trí:

Ẩm thực tinh khiết,

Tư tưởng tinh khiết.

Tin ngưỡng mạnh mẽ nơi Chí Tôn và Phật Mẫu.

Thương yêu vô tận.

Ấy là chìa khóa mở cửa Bát Quái Đài tại thế nầy.

How to reform yourself before taking the Caodaist Third Approach:

Be friendly towards living beings, finding the relationship between God and living beings.

Be willing to appreciate and forgive everyone.

Be open-minded and unselfish.

Be calm. Do not let yourself be badly disturbed by bad luck, good luck, sorrow and joy (keep the balance of your mind against extreme emotions).

Be generous and considerate.

Be happy, moderate, self-restrained and decisive.

Let conscience be your guide.

Be deeply religious.

* How to maintain your kind heart, which symbolizes conscience.

Faith and wisdom are the most valuable while anything else is wasteful.

Those who hate their enemies cannot be just enough.

Only people free from hatred can win their opponents.

Hatred is human most unhappiness, so a righteous person tries to stay away from it.

Neither get angry nor anger anybody.

Conquer evil by good.

Conquer cruelty with humaneness.

Conquer narrow-mindedness with generosity.

Conquer wrong by right.

That is called the Miraculous Sword of Enlightenment.

*How to stay healthy and mindful.

Have purified food, i.e. vegetarian food.

Have noble thoughts.

Have a dutiful spirit of reverence for God the Father and God the Mother.

Practice infinite compassion.

That is the key to achieving nirvana.

Luyện Tam bửu (Tinh Khí Thần) hiệp nhứt

Chinese: 煉三寶精氣神合一

To unite the three jewels or to practice Caodaist esotericism. (The same as luyện đạo or tu chơn). According to Caodaism, there are three approaches for believers to choose from, according to their background and interest: missionary work, charity work and esoteric practice.

Phẩm vị Thần, Thánh, Tiên, Phật, từ ngày Ðạo bị bế, thì luật lệ hỡi còn nguyên, luyện pháp chẳng đổi, song Thiên đình mỗi phen đánh tản THẦN không cho hiệp cùng TINH, KHÍ.

Thầy đến đặng huờn nguyên Chơn thần cho các con đắc đạo. Con hiểu “Thần cư tại Nhãn”. Bố trí cho chư Ðạo hữu con hiểu rõ. Nguồn cội Tiên Phật do yếu nhiệm là tại đó.

Thầy nói cái chơn thần là nhị xác thân các con, là khí chất (le sperme évaporé). Nó bao bọc thân thể các con như khuôn bọc vậy. Nơi trung tim của nó là óc; nơi cửa xuất nhập của nó là mỏ ác, gọi tiếng chữ là vi hộ, nơi ấy Hộ Pháp hằng đứng mà gìn giữ chơn linh các con, khi luyện thành đạo, đặng hiệp một với Khí, rồi mới đưa thấu đến chơn thần hiệp một mà siêu phàm nhập Thánh.

The Collection of Divine Messages:

To achieve a heavenly title such as angel, saint, immortal and buddha, the same old rules have been followed since Tao was closed. However, Heaven kept preventing Thần (soul) from uniting with Tinh (body) and Khí (mind), so it has been impossible for people to achieve enlightenment. Now I (God) come to return Chơn thần (soul) to you in order that you can attain the ultimate wisdom. You know "The soul stays in human eyes", so explain it to other Caodaists. That's the key to achieving Buddhahood.

Disciples, chơn thần or your astral body is the evaporating sperm, which covers your physical body like a mold. Its core is your brain and mỏ ác (the fontanel) is the outlet where it leaves and returns. Mỏ ác is called vi hộ, where Hộ Pháp (the Dharma Guardian) regularly stands to protect your soul during esoteric practice. That's is when Tinh unites Khí and then Thần, attaining the divine status.

The Eighth Female Buddha's Teachings on Caodaist Esotericism:

Esoteric practice involves training your physical body, your mind and your soul, which Cao Đài calls the “three jewels”, so that they merge into a unit. In the old days, ancient priests said, “Convert your body (Tinh) into mind (Khí), convert the mind into soul (Thần) and bring the soul back to nothingness.”

§TINH:

Tinh is the human physical body. Whatever name it is called, it is literally your body, which is a visible material entity. It is composed of a head, a torso, two arms and two legs. Inside are the internal organs. Current anatomists can examine each part of the body. Using an electron microscope, they can even see the nucleus of a tiny cell. Now they know that the human body is composed of billions of continuously active cells. Those cells are changing all the time to keep the body alive.

Generally, those cells are influenced by the weather. Besides, absorbing the essence of materials to support themselves, they are also affected by the digested materials. Pure materials result in a pure body while impurity materials produced an impure one. Pure food makes intelligent and determined humans; otherwise, it makes stupid people who are nothing less than gamblers, drinkers, sex maniacs and drug abusers. Pure materials include grains, fruits and vegetables. Impure materials are meat, fish, crabs and shells. An esoteric practitioner with a pure body can be easily successful in practicing esotericism, so you should completely purify your body by having vegetarian diet.

§KHÍ:

Khí is the human mind, composed of a visible and an invisible part.

The visible part is the head and the brain. The brain controls human consciousness. The brain is inside the skull whose top is mỏ ác (the fontanel). Between “mỏ ác” and the brain is Nê Hườn Cung. In front of it is the forehead. Inside the brain and between the forehead and the brain is Huệ Quang Khiếu, which is between the eyes.

The invisible part includes Nê Hườn Cung and Huệ Quang Khiếu. Like air, they are unseen. You realize there is air because you see the winds blowing and the clouds floating. Similarly, you know there are Nê Hườn Cung and Huệ Quang Khiếu because you know that the world’s greatest persons and Buddha, who achieve extraordinary enlightenment, have great thoughts or inventions.

§THẦN:

Thần is the soul. It is invisible, but you realize its existence because you know you surely die unless you have a soul.

In summary, Tinh is your body. You cannot exist without your body. In addition, you are only a motionless mass of material unless you have a soul. The soul brings you to life. However, even with the body and the soul, you are only an insane without your mind. Those who lack one of those three parts are either dead or insane. That is why they are called the “three jewels".

“Thưa cùng mấy chị em, em xin nhắc nhở điều này. Ngày hội Ngọc Hư Cung đặng lo phương tiếp pháp của Tây phương Cực Lạc truyền qua, em đã đặng nghe thấy những lời của Ðịa Tạng Vương Bồ Tát than thở rằng: Ngài là Phật, nên khó gần gũi các hồn nữ phái mà khuyến giáo cơ giải thoát mê đồ. Bởi cớ, nơi Âm quang, nữ hồn còn bị luyện tội nhiều hơn nam phái bội phần. Em lại nghe Người ước rằng: Chớ chi có một Ðấng Nữ Tiên dám đảm đương đến phổ tế mới mong tận độ chư vong của Phong Ðô thoát kiếp. Em mới để dạ lo lường, cả lòng lân ái đến đó. Em đã chán thấy nhiều tội tình chẳng trọng hệ, song có hồn chịu sầu thảm lạ thường. Em đã liệu nhiều phương thế cho từ đây mấy chơn hồn có bề dễ tránh khỏi cửa Âm quang hãm tội."

"My sisters, let me bring this to your notice. In a convention in Ngọc Hư Cung on the reception of Cực Lạc Thế Giới (the Land of Ultimate Bliss) dharma, I heard Địa Tạng Vương Bồ Tát (Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva) complain that he hardly had access to female spirits to educate them because of his unfavorable position of a Buddha. In Âm Quang, more female spirits are punished than male. He wished to have a female Immortal responsible and devoted enough there to help liberate them all from Phong Đô (Hell). I have considered this and gone there. I witness some spirits too miserable to bear in spite of their minor sins. I have had a lot of strategies so that the coming spirits can avoid punishment from Âm Quang."

The jade incense burner, jade censer.

Đạo gốc bởi lòng thành tín hiệp,

Lòng nương nhang khói tiếp truyền ra.

Prayer via incense:

Đạo originates in true belief and sincerity.

By means of incense, human prayers are carried.

Through the air, the fragrance from the jade censer permeates.

I sincerely pray to gods that everyone will be saved.

LƯƠNG

Lương điền, Công nghệ, Thương mãi

Chinese: 糧田 - 工藝 - 商賣

Agriculture, Industry, Commerce.

Ðạo Luật năm Mậu Dần (1938):

(Cơ Quan Phước Thiện) Một làng đạo cần phải khai mở nhiều sở lương điền, công nghệ, thương mãi.

Caodaist Act 1938:

(Charity Office) Agriculture, industry and commerce should be encouraged in a Caodaist village.

Lương sanh

Chinese: 良生

Honest people.

Thầy đến qui các lương sanh của Thầy đã sai đến trước lại làm một, đặng lập Hội Thánh, mà làm hình thể của Thầy, hầu tránh khỏi hạ trần trong lúc TKPĐ nầy.

God comes to collect the honest people who came already under His order to establish a Sacerdotal Council representing Him in the Third Amnesty.

Lương tâm

Chinese: 良心

Conscience, moral sense, sense of right and wrong.

Thánh Ngôn Hiệp Tuyển:

Thầy đã nói rằng, nơi thân phàm các con, mỗi đứa Thầy đều cho một chơn linh gìn giữ cái chơn mạng sanh tồn. Thầy tưởng chẳng cần nói, các con cũng hiểu rõ rằng, đấng chơn linh ấy vốn vô tư, mà lại đặng phép giao thông cùng cả chư Thần, Thánh, Tiên, Phật và các Ðấng Trọn lành nơi Ngọc Hư Cung, nhứt nhứt điều lành và việc dữ đều ghi chép không sai, đặng dâng vào Tòa Phán Xét. Bởi vậy nên một mảy không qua, dữ lành đều có trả. Lại nữa, các chơn linh ấy, tánh Thánh nơi mình, đã chẳng phải gìn giữ các con mà thôi, mà còn dạy dỗ các con, thường nghe đời gọi lộn Lương tâm là đó.

Bởi vậy chư Hiền, chư Thánh Nho nói rằng:

“Khi nhơn tức khi tâm.”

“Hoạch tội ư Thiên vô sở đảo dã.”

Như các con nói dối, trước chưa dối với người thì các con đã nói dối với Lương tâm, tức là Chơn linh. Thầy đã nói, chơn linh ấy đem nạp vào Tòa Phán Xét từ lời nói của các con, dầu những lời ấy không thiệt hành mặc dầu, chớ tội tình cũng đồng một thể.

Nơi Tòa Phán Xét, chẳng một lời nói vô ích mà bỏ, nên Thầy dạy các con phải cẩn ngôn cẩn hạnh, thà là các con làm tội mà chịu tội cho đành, hơn là các con nói tội mà phải mang trọng hình đồng thể.

The Collection of Divine Messages:

Disciples, I have told you I have assigned a chơn linh (a soul, a divine spirit) to keep each of you alive. Needless to say, you surely know that soul is completely unbiased and able to communicate with all deities in Ngọc Hư Cung (the Capital of Heaven). That soul records your right as well as wrong behaviors and sends them to the Divine Judge so that you can be judged totally fairly. In addition, that soul not only keeps your body alive but also give good instructions, so it is supposedly called "conscience ".

That's why ancient sages said: "Scorning a human means scorning conscience or God, which is an unforgivable sin."

If you tell a lie, you first lie to that conscience or soul or God. As mentioned, that soul records whatever you have said, which is judged fairly though it results in no actions. In the Divine Judge, even the trivial words are considered carefully, so watch your tongue all the time!

Lương tể

Chinese: 良宰

A good mandarin, i.e. a good administration or good ruling policy.

Thánh Ngôn Hiệp Tuyển:

Ðào Nguyên lại trổ trái hai lần,

Ai ngỡ Việt Thường đã thấy lân.

Cung Ðẩu vít xa gươm xích quỉ

Thiềm cung mở rộng cửa hà ngân.

Xuân thu định vững ngôi lương tể,

Phất chủ quét tan lũ nịnh thần.

Thổi khí vĩnh sanh lau xã tắc,

Mở đường quốc thể định phong vân.

Chinese: 糧物

Food, nutrients.

Phàm xác thân con người, tuy mắt phàm coi thân hình như một, chớ kỳ trung nơi bổn thân vốn một khối chất chứa vàn vàn muôn muôn sanh vật.

Những sanh vật ấy cấu kết nhau mà thành khối vật chất có tánh linh, vì vật chất nuôi nấng nó cũng đều là sanh vật, tỷ như: rau cỏ, cây trái, lúa gạo, mọi lương vật đều cũng có chất sanh.

Generally, a human body is considered a solid mass while it actually is composed of millions of living beings.Those living beings collaborate to form a mass with a divine spirit because all of its nutrients are also living beings with divine spirits, for example vegetables, rice and other foods.

Lương viện

Chinese: 糧院

Caodaist Deparment of Hospitality, one of the nine departments, which is the central administration of Caodaism. This department is responsible for food supply in the whole religion.

Each Caodaist Sarcerdotal Council has its own department of hospitality. Therefore, there are the Department of Hospitality under the Caodaist Executive Body, the Female Sacerdotal Council, and the Caodaist Philanthropic Body.

Lương vụ

Chinese: 糧務

Hospitality, one of the four groups of management of a Caodaist Holy House. This group takes care of the food supply.

Lương vương (Lương Võ Đế)

Chinese: 梁王

Emperor Wu of Liang (梁武帝) (464–549), the founding emperor of the Liang Dynasty of Chinese history. He is remembered for the many contributions he gave to Buddhism. There are a few stories that revolve around his involvement with Buddhism.

Traditionally, when he asked Bodhidharma, the first Zen patriarch of China, how much merit he gained for the temples he had built and the financial support he had given to the monastic community, Bodhidharma replied, "None whatsoever." This story typifies not only Zen's uncompromising teaching methods but also its essence.

Sách truyện xưa ghi đã lắm điều.

Như chuông tỉnh thế gõ nên kêu.

Ðường tu ví bẳng không lo trước,

Ðền điện Lương vương phải cháy tiêu.

A good doctor, a good physician.

Bề ngoài coi chẳng có vẻ chi trầm trọng, nhưng một ngày kia nếu chẳng rõ mà chế cải thì xuất tại trong mà loán ra ngoài, thế mạnh như núi đè cây, biển tràn bờ, chẳng thế chi ngăn chống nổi. Ấy là lúc bịnh xung trong ngũ tạng lục phủ, nhập đến cao hoang, thì người bịnh dầu số Trời cứu cũng không qua đặng

Disciples, the Caodaist monastic community is now nothing less than a patient whose disease hasn't been diagnosed by doctor yet. The condition doesn't seem serious now until its symptoms are showed up one day. That's when the patient is too sick to be cured, even by God.

Lưỡng nghi

Chinese: 兩儀

The two forms, i.e. Yin and Yang.

Thánh Ngôn Hiệp Tuyển:

Thầy đã nói với các con rằng: khi chưa có chi trong càn khôn thế giới thì khí hư vô sanh ra có một thầy và ngôi của thầy là Thái Cực. Thầy phân Thái Cực ra Lưỡng Nghi, Lưỡng Nghi phân ra Tứ Tượng, Tứ Tượng biến Bát Quái, Bát Quái biến hoá vô cùng mới lập ra càn khôn thế giới.

Disciples, I told you that before the Creation, khí hư vô gave birth to Me and My throne called Thái Cực. Then, I separated Thái Cực into Lưỡng Nghi, which divided into Tứ Tượng. Tứ Tượng, in turn, changed into Bát Quái. Finally, Bát Quái changed countless times to create the universe.

Note:

Khí hư vô: nothingness, void, zero, the limitless.

Thái cực : the absolute.

Lưỡng nghi: the two forms, i.e. Yin and Yang.

Tứ tượng: four phenomena.

Bát quái: the eight trigrams.

Chinese: 留照

To file, record, log.

Cả số tiền thâu vào Hộ Viện thì vị Quản Lý phải làm biên lai nhận lãnh, có lót giấy lọ (carbone) đặng thành ra 2 bổn, 1 bổn giao cho người nạp tiền và 1 bổn để lưu chiếu cho Hội Thánh.

Caodaist Act 1938:

Receiving a sum of money, the treasurer of the Department of Finance has to issue two receipts, one to the contributor and the other filed for the Sacerdotal Council.

Chinese: 留名

To build up a good reputation.

Ly gia cắt ái

Chinese: 離家

Leaving one's family.

Vào nơi đạo đức rồi, dầu cho phải cắt ái ly gia, chia tình xẻ nghĩa, máu thịt đoạn ly, mà làm cho tròn trách nhậm xứng đáng của mình, để hiến thân chuộc sanh mạng cho muôn ngàn kẻ đồng bào, thì cái đau đớn thường tình, sự khổ tâm ở thế kia, đau khổ nào có tiếc. Ấy là cử chỉ của các bậc Thánh trước, tìm mối chơn đạo như thế, chư đạo hữu nên ghi.

Entering the priesthood, you should be willing to sacrifice what you treasure, like your beloved family, for your responsibility of universal salvation. My friends, remember that is what ancient Saints did when they got religion in the past.

Thánh tâm dầu phải chịu khổn trần đi nữa, thì chất nó cũng vẫn còn. Các con khác hơn kẻ phàm là duy tại bấy nhiêu đó mà thôi. Kẻ phàm dầu ly hương thuở ấu xuân đi nữa, lòng hằng hoài vọng. Chí Thánh dầu bị đọa trần, lòng hỡi còn nhớ hoài nơi Tiên Cảnh.

Although living an earthly life, a deity still has divine qualities. That's what differentiates between you and worldly humans. A person who left his hometown in his childhood will keep missing it. Similarly, an exiled deity will always miss his heavenly status.

Ly loạn

Chinese: 離亂

Unrest (usually due to a war)

Còn gia đình chẳng hòa, thì cha con mích nhau, chồng vợ lìa tan, anh em ly tán.

Còn trong luân lý chẳng hòa, thì dân cư bất mục. Nước chẳng hòa thì sanh ly loạn.

Còn cả thế giới bất hòa, thì nhơn loại đấu tranh. Vì vậy Thiếp khuyên các em dĩ hòa vi tiên.

Without harmony, there will be conflicts in the family leading to separation, communal insecurity, social unrest, and then world war. Therefore, my advice is "Harmony should be the top priority".

Ly tình

Chinese: 離情

Farewell to love.

Kinh Tụng Khi Vợ Qui Liễu:

Dâng mảnh tâm gọi là của lễ.

Chén ly tình là lệ ái ân.

Dầu chi cũng nghĩa chí thân,

Khối tình còn có một lần đấy thôi.

My heart is also my offering to you here,

The farewell wine tastes like tears.

You are both my lover and best friend, my dear,

Li Bai, the Great Immortal, Caodaist Supreme Leader and the First Heavenly Governor. He is said to have incarnated as Li Bai, the great poet in ancient China.

Chinese: 理斷

Presumption, hypothesis, conjecture.

Bảo Đạo phải gìn giữ bí mật ấy cho kín nhiệm, làm tờ lý đoán binh vực chiếu y luật Đạo, rồi dâng lên cho Thượng Phẩm.

Bảo Đạo has to keep the case secret, prepare presumption to protect the defendant and present the case to Thượng Phẩm.

Lý Lão Quân

Chinese: 李老君

The same as Lão Đam or Lão Quân, i.e. Laotzu, the founder of Taoism.

The miraculous principle, the law of nature, the basic pillar.

Khai Kinh:

Làm người rõ thấu lý sâu,

Sửa lòng trong sạch tụng cầu Thánh Kinh.

Commencement Prayer:

If you understand that law of nature,

Purify yourself first and then say the prayer.

Lý Thái Bạch

Chinese: 李太白

Li Bai (701 – 762), also known as Immortal Poet, a genius and romantic Chinese poet who took Classical Chinese poetry to its peak. Li Bai is often considered the greatest Chinese poet of all time.

Caodaists call him the Great Immortal, Caodaist Supreme Leader and the First Heavenly Governor.

Từ đây Thầy đã giao quyền thưởng phạt về nơi tay Bần Ðạo, vậy các đạo hữu khá hết lòng lo lắng, vun đắp nền đạo cho vững vàng, hiệp ý với Thiên cơ mà bước lần lên địa vị cao thượng; chớ sụt sè ôm thói mờ hồ, thì đã uổng công trình cực nhọc từ bấy lâu nay, lại thêm chẳng đặng theo Thánh ý của Thầy là bậc Chí Tôn đã hết sức nhọc nhằn cùng sanh chúng.

The Collection of Divine Messages:

From now on, under God's orders I have authority over all Caodaist believers, so try your best to develop the religion in order to attain higher heavenly status. Don't hesitate anymore! That will waste what you have done so far and dissatisfy God, who has worked hard with people.
