Whitchurch CC 2XI vs. Bridestowe CC 2XI - 17th June 2017

Post date: Jun 20, 2017 10:09:41 AM

Bridestowe second string picked up a valuable win at previously unbeaten Whitchurch.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat on a hot day. 'Chipper' Batstone (19) and talisman Shaw (45) got off to a steady start, the latter doing most of the scoring with a number of boundaries. The introduction of Clive Marais (3-37) worked as he removed Shaw caught and bowled. Nielo (10) smashed a couple of boundaries before he was caught and bowled by Mackenzie-Smith (1-41). The bulk of the runs came from the middle order, with Ian Jutson (38), Kieran Lee (53) and Corey Holliday (40) all striking the ball well. Jason Webber (3-31) kept things tight and was the pick of the home bowlers. Tom Boother (11no) showed his class with a late cameo with the bat, to take BCC to 240-7.

Jutson (1-23) and Shaw (1-15) kept things tight as usual, and runs were hard to come by for the home batsmen. Bomber (2-28) and The Boother Show (3-18) ripped through the middle order and all but won the game for the visitors. Only Clive Marais (27), Jason Webber (18) and Neil Tamblin (17) put up much resistance for the hosts. Dave Jopling (3-6) finished things off in style with a hatrick which included two wickets bowled and a sharp stumping from Ian Jutson. Whitchurch finished on 131 all out. So another good win for the twos, who sit fourth heading into the halfway point in the season.
