T20 Update - 03/06/14 and 05/06/14

Last week, no 20/20 games took place as the 2s had a bye, and in the 1s Tavistock conceded.

This week, the 1s travelled to Luckett and the 2s hosted Calstock. With a strong side available, unfortunately the 1s game was cancelled due to rain, but the 2s game went ahead. With James Stevens away, stand in skipper Jack won the toss and batted. Jopling (14) got a few runs opening up but nothing much came from the other end as the score meandered to 20 odd for 1 after 6 overs. The score began to accelerate when Matt Turner (20) got to the crease and hit a few big 6s. When Jopling was bowled by an absolute cracker, and Matt was out caught, Stuart Tolley came in and clubbed a brisk 14 whilst Joe Turner (17) hit the gaps well and kept the score ticking. The next man was 3rd Turner brother James (17) who hit consecutive sixes over point but was then was bowled, with the score still below 100 and only 6 overs left. Tom Fog (49no) then came to the crease and smashed the ball to all parts to take the score to 162-8 along with Pat Ewen, despite some tight death bowling by Jon Lambert (4-14-1). The Calstock chase never really got going even with some early boundaries from JL (18). They were bowled out for 54 with wickets for Rhys MB (3), Joe (2), James (1), Matt (1), Jopling (2) and even keeper Pat (1).

On Thursday the 1s played Tavistock in the cup, we lost the toss and were asked to field at The Ring. The two Fogs bowled economical early spells and Tavi struggled to get anything away, in fact the only run in the first three overs was a leg side wide! Tom Fogs bowled through and picked up three wickets and went for few runs. At the halfway stage Tavi had only 40 odd on the board and had lost a few early wickets. Joe Turner bowled a tight spell to keep the runs down, and brother Matt also sent down a decent couple of overs. The game changed after Churchill came in and smashed a quick 50 before he was well run out by Pat. Sam bowled some good death overs but their pro and other middle order bats got some useful runs to take the score to 139-7 after 20 overs. The reply started steadily until Jack was out cheaply lbw. Sam and Gary occupied the crease and hit the odd boundary to keep us in the game. With the score approaching 100, but with overs running out, Gary was bowled around his legs for 30 odd. Tom followed soon after trying to clear the boundary off the spinner. Sam then upped the pace and hit a few boundaries but after clipping a few 2s at the other end Mark was out caught. James and Sam kept us in the game, but after hitting a 6, Sam was caught on the boundary in the penultimate over. James and Pat couldn't manage the 25 runs from the 8 remaining balls and we finished on 124-5 from our 20, losing by 15 runs.

Next Tuesday the 1s are away to Whitchurch and the 2s are home to Sticklepath. The 2s also have a cup game on Thursday against Lydford.
