T20 Update - 08/07/14

After their crucial win against Lewdown last week, the 1sts faced Whitchurch at Oke looking to stay unbeaten and increase their lead at the top of the table. We lost the toss and were asked to bat first with a damp outfield. After a couple of productive early overs, Sam was run out and the score slowed. More run outs and some ugly shots left us lose regular wickets, including 3 in one over, which left us bowled out for just 99 with more than 2 overs still remaining! The only batsmen to get going were Gary Siz (26), Jack Hatton (15) and James Ewen (18). The Whitchurch chase started well with a couple of boundaries off Dan Fog's first over. It soon became apparent that the less pace on the ball the better, and after some tight over from Barry and Gary, Dan Fog produced a great direct hit run out by Dan Fog to remove the dangerous Billy Barriball. Wickets then tumbled as Tom Fog (3-12) and Robbie (2-10) gave nothing away and bowled tight lines. We fielded excellently, particularly Pat behind the stumps, and kept the visitors well below the target as they finished their 20 overs on 72-9. Lewdown were rained off meaning that we opened the gap to 4 points, with just 3 games and 6 points remaining. Next week the 1s travel to Tavistock, and a win would guarantee at least a tie for 1st place in Division 1 of the TEL.

Unfortunately the 2s opposition Calstock were unable to raise a side, taking the 2s onto their most ever points in Division 2 (9).
