Bridestowe 2nd XI v Chagford 2nd XI - 16th June
Post date: Jun 21, 2018 12:42:17 PM
The one where we lost interest.
With paint dry and lawns all cut from last weeks DIY following the bye because somebody somewhere couldn’t scrape a team together, we return to the Bette Noir of the season so far that is the Milaton ground.
Three defeats out of three so far can we turn it around?...letssee.
‘Whos on teas? ‘ that will be Daleo again ! good job he doesn’t mind buttering bread and the such like.
For the first time this season we are looking at grey clouds overhead. Are we gonna get a game in ? not according to Teeshaw. ‘should have been called off three days ago, don’t like playing in the rain!’
The rest of us remain unconvinced, but a slightly moist top on a dry track means we really need to win the toss and bowl. Blind Pew has returned to the side as captain following his eye operation. After he has introduced himself to all the ten new faces in the changing room we realise that his eyesight has indeed been quite poor. Anyway off he trots with all the expectation that his new found vision will help him.
Yeah sure…!
So we are batting then!
Neilo and Batstsone open the innings. The first over is difficult to say the least with the ball rearing up off a length or staying low. Batstone Gloves one over the slips for 4. This batting lark isn’t gonna be a lot of fun today !!.
Neilo working out that attack is the best form of defence goes with the ‘if its up I am gonna throw the kitchen sink at it. Using Charlie Ewens 3lb 8oz bat when he hits it, its gone !
Neilo finally bowled off an inside edge for 25 but Briddy twos are already on 45 in the 10th …over 4 an over ! the ball is starting to behave a bit better now and Buzz and Batstone move the score along swiftly to 78 before Batstone is bowled. Teeshaw to the crease and he and Buzz really start putting the bowlers under pressure. With their openers bowled out Chagford are starting to struggle a bit.
Buzz goes and the score on 99 which brings the innings defining partnership of Ian Jutson and Teeshaw together. The ball is now really being punished and the score rate starts flying up. Ian eventually holes out for a quick fire 37 but the score is now 184. Kaylee smashes a massive flat 6 off I seem to recall his second or third ball, but by the time he and Teeshaw, who goes for a really classy 77, disappear back to the hutch we are steaming away toward a great total. Daleoand Jack Shaw see the innings out for a very commendable 224 fer 6 at the close of our 40.
So to an excellent tea courtesy of Daleo Harris …he really is starting to hone those buttering skills!.
The second innings. LJ starts with a commendable 6 over s for 8. Not a bad return following his 4 weeks off. Kaylee opens from the grandstand end bowling some great lines ( and the odd bad one) with good pace. Chagford are going nowhere fast – well to be accurate they are going nowhere and they are also doing it slowly! A controversial run out of the opener by Teeshaw and Ian ( bid you knock the bails off with your gloves before you had the ball in your hands ?!? we will never know…well actually we will because the book says ‘RUN OUT’.
Kaylee snares the other opener ‘BOWLED’ ….then….
To be honest the rest of their innings was so bloody boring and tedious I cant even be bothered to write about it…..
Our bowlers that were used.
Jopps – 6,0,32,2
Marko – 8,3,29,1
Daleo – 8,2,18,2
Teeshaw -4 ,2,3,0
As their batsmen got out they went home (obviusly taking a leaf from Briddy club Pro Corey) .
At the end of their 40 they were….frankly I don’t care!!
To the pub…a few of the first team were already back from their win so some beers were swilled, chips munched and chicken nuggets devoured.
Was it a good days cricket ? ….YES in so far as we slotted our first win.NO in so far as it was bloody tedious standing around in the cold under grey clouds watching their batters do naff all.
Where are we next week? Back at Milaton for a go against Hatherleigh and an inaugural tea from Hilary Lee….can’t wait!!!. Well gonna have to coz its only Thursday when I write this.
