Bridestowe CC 1XI vs. Plymouth CS&R CC 1XI - 2nd July 2016

Post date: Jul 3, 2016 9:32:45 AM

Bridestowe picked up another victory at home to Plymouth Civil Service and Roughborough. Sizmur won the toss and elected to bowl first on a wet pitch. It proved the right decision as PCS&R subsided to 7-4, with Tom Fogerty and Sizmur both picking up a couple of wickets. Jopling helped out with two excellent catches at short-cover. There was a recovery of sorts as the visitors got to 17 before Tom (5-16) bowled Wilkinson for 6. Tom then got a couple more wickets to complete his 5-wicket haul, and leave the visitors reeling at 30-7. Sharp showed some resistance and batted well for his 17 before he fell lbw to Lavis (1-21). Khan (1-17) struggled to find his line on a slow turning pitch, but did pick up the wicket of Read with an excellent arm ball. There was then a short rain delay as the heavens opened. Jopling (0-4) again bowled a tidy spell without reward. Sizmur returned to finish things off, and he did as Ellard, who had battled well for 20, picked out James Ewen at deep mid-wicket. 85 all-out represented a good recovery from 7-4 and 30-7, but was still likely to be well short of a competitive score.

The Bridestowe chase started well through Sizmur and Phil Hatton, who both worked the ball around nicely. Phil (25) tried to up the pace and got the score to 44 before he and Sizmur (14) both fell in quick succession to Light (2-28). Jack Hatton and James Ewen both got balls which popped from Windsor (2-21) and chipped the ball to close fielders. Tom Fogerty (30no) then completed a fine day out by pummeling the PCS&R bowling with some agricultural stroke play to finish the chase off, with Naz (2no) solid in defense at the other end. It took almost 30 overs to eek out the runs on a difficult pitch, but the win was never really in doubt.

That brings the season to its half-way point, and we now find ourselves in mid-table, with a record of w4-l4-c1. Next week brings a trip to Stoke Gabriel, with a win giving us a chance of sneaking into the top 3.
