Bridestowe 1XI vs. Dartington and Totnes 1XI - 6th May 2017

Post date: May 8, 2017 3:08:03 PM

Bridestowe 1XI got off to a winning start in their opening game of the season against Dartington and Totnes.

Newly appointed captain Dan Fogerty won his first toss and stuck D&T into bat. Tom Fogerty (3-15) opened the bowling down the hill and immediately had the batsmen in trouble. Gary Sizmur was looking equally threatening at the other end, but it was Tom who got the breakthrough as Perkin was bowled for 0. Tom then had Winch caught and bowled for 1 before he was replaced by Jopling (2-27). Pat Ewen took a sharp stumping chance off Jopling to remove Miller for 24. New batsman Baxendale (6) struck the ball well but some excellent ground fielding from BCC kept scoring to a minimum. Dan Fogerty (4-10), still carrying an ankle injury from the rugby season, bowled off a short run with great effect, and bowled Cooke, who had batted sensibly for his 32. Ryan Dennis bowled accurately in his miserly 8-over spell (1-12). Corey Holliday (0-16), making his 1XI debut, also bowled a good spell and was unlucky not to pick up a wicket. Dan then quickly dismissed the tail enders, and was only denied a five wicket haul by brother Tom who came back to take the final wicket. 107ao seemed like a modest target and the Bridestowe batsmen were confident of completing the chase.

Gary Sizmur (47) opened the Bridestowe innings with Matt Dennis (8) and both started confidently, hitting early boundaries. D&T quickly changed to their spinners which slowed the run rate considerably. Baxendale (4-18) got the breakthrough and Cook (1-19) also picked up an early wicket. Baxendale was finding appreciable turn and picked up three more wickets, but Sizmur continued to look comfortable at the crease. He fell three runs short of his half-century when Baxendale took an excellent catch at extra cover off the bowling of Miller (1-28). Tom Fogerty (21*) and Pat Ewen (1*) eased Bridestowe home with 14 overs and 4 wickets remaining. Next week Bridestowe 1XI travel to South Devon, whilst the 2XI host Ipplepen.
