Hughes-Owens

Hughes-Owens 1760 / Sun Hemmi 32 (1951)

Sun Hemmi made slide rules for a variety of companies, including Hughes-Owens in Canada. This little 4" model is slightly mysterious.

It's clearly marked on the reverse as both a Hughes Owens 1760, and Sun Hemmi 32. It bears a date code of BG: July 1951, and the edge of the cursor says "Made in Occupied Japan". But it has a flat cursor, and 1760/32's from that time had magnifiers according to the Sun Hemmi Catalog Raisonne. So either the catalog is wrong, or someone has swapped the original magnified cursor off the rule for a flat one.
