Miguel Caló

Miguel Caló

(28 October 1907 – 24 May 1972)

As a testament to the popularity of the tango orchestra of Miguel Caló, 45 years after his death, albums of his music continue to show up in the top 10 music charts of Billboard Magazine.

Miguel Caló was a very popular bandleader, composer, and bandoneon master from the Golden Age of Tango. His music is still popular with dancers at milongas around the world.

In 2016, a compilation of his Golden Age tangos, Siguen Los Exitos de La Orquesta de Miguel Caló, placed in the Top Ten in the Latin Pop Albums for two weeks in a row. (Jurek)

He also composed numerous tangos, both instrumental and vocal. Some, including "Milonga Porteña," "Cobrate y Dame el Vuelto," "Qué Te Importa que Llore," and "Dos Fracasos," are considered immortal classics.

He featured many musicians and singers over a thirty year period, and his musical style ranged from the rhythmic, striding tangos of the 1930's to the more innovative tangos of the 1940's. (Blaya)
