Appalachian Jonny - Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost
The Appalachian Trail is 2189 miles long stretching from the hills of northern Georgia through 14 states to Maine and Mount Katahdin. Growing up in New England I crossed the AT with wonder many times. Wide eyed and impressionable, the thought of a trail stretching that far was hard to imagine for one so young. It was just a heck of a long way. But a seed was planted in that young mind that maybe, just maybe, I would walk it from end to end one day. Now, many years and life events later the convergence of some planning, the blessing of my wonderful wife, Ann, and a good dose of Time and Chance has made that vague childhood dream crystallize into reality. In mid March, the journey will begin at Springer Mountain, Georgia with my pack pared down to the bare essentials heading north. No twinkies in my pack! The first part will be solo, but then I'll be joined by Bob Schmidt, the first of those doing sections with me, for about two weeks starting in the Smokies. This website, courtesy of son-in-law Tyler, will be a nice way to coordinate those joining me and for others interested in following the journey.
Happy Trails!
