Today, 8/9, knowing we had a very short hike of 9 miles, Packman and I slept in, had a leisurely breakfast, took our time breaking down camp, and were the last of the hikers to leave at about 10:00. At 4-5 miles we crossed the White River which offered some tremendous swimming. It brought instant rejuvenation. After the swim, Stinker Bell, who had left camp before us, called to us from across the river. She, along with some local kids were jumping into the river from a 30 foot bridge. We joined her for lunch, then hiked with her until reaching our turn off for Happy Hills Shelter while she continued on to Hanover.
We're now the only ones at the shelter in our tents after a nice dinner and nice conversation.
Mile 1741.
