Day #1 a scouting mission to see how the Prius could handle the forest roads- not very well! But, we made it to the Springer Mountain parking lot and hiked 1 mile out to the southern terminus and back. So the first one of 2189 miles done!! Yeah! It was very nice to do with Ann. Tomorrow it's back to the same parking lot to begin for real!

Birds seen so far: Robins, crows, cardinals, blue jays, mockingbird, blue headed vireo, brown thrasher, red bellied woodpecker, red tailed hawk, chipping sparrow, song sparrow, phoebe, eastern towhee, Carolina wren, goldfinch, chickadee, mourning dove, yellow rumped warbler, pine warbler, bluebird, downy woodpecker,eastern meadowlark, hermit thrush, pileated woodpecker, tufted titmouse, white breasted nuthatch, yellow bellied sapsucker, turkey vulture.
