Last night we stayed in Dahlonega, Georgia. A nice little town where North Georgia University is located. As we walked the old city square, we asked for recommendations about where to eat, and chose Shenanigans where we were told we could get a great hamburger. True enough, the place was great and indeed had amazing burgers. Our waitress, a student at the University, told us the place had burned to the ground about two years ago, then was rebuilt and went onto win the title as serving the best hamburgers in Georgia! She also told us that Dahlonega was the site of the first gold rush in US history. Unfortunately for the Cherokee, gold meant trouble, and they were eventually evicted from their long time home and sent west via the Trail of Tears. Very sad. "Dahlonega" is the Cherokee word for gold.
Walked from Cooper Gap at 12.3 miles to Woody Gap at 21.1.
