511 Tactical Chameleon Softshell Jacket Review

The 511 Tactical Chameleon Softshell Jacket is a new high performance raincoat. Here are some of the features that make this jacket one of the best options on the market.

I've had several jackets in my time and have found that they are all almost identical in their features, except for the outer shell. Some shells may be heavier or maybe have more pockets. The jacket that I purchased, the 511 Tactical Chameleon Softshell Jacket, has pockets, tons of pockets, including the front pocket, and many other pockets on the sides and at the rear.

I like this jacket because it feels and looks very similar to an outdoor raincoat but has a much better breathable exterior. If you want an outdoor raincoat that you can feel in your hands, this jacket is not for you. It is well made and very comfortable to wear.

The waterproof inner layer keeps water from going inside the jacket and onto the skin. It also has a zip that will keep water out and keep it from getting on the zippers of your boots or pants. This is great for a winter jacket.

The warmth and ventilation from the inner fleece layer keep the outer layer very dry and comfortable. This jacket was a breeze to put on.

This jacket looks and feels like an oversized jacket, but has so much room inside the outer shell. I did find that the sleeves on this jacket were rather short, which makes for a bit of a problem when wearing it in warm weather.

This jacket has heavy duty polyester fabric and DWR (durable water repellent) coating. The polyester material is great because it provides excellent heat retention and won't easily become slippery with sweat.

My wife found this jacket very comfortable to wear and appreciated the fact that it kept her warm while still looking great. It looks much like an oversized jacket and even has a zipper at the waist that allows for a ton of accessories to be worn with it.

This jacket has excellent water resistance and will keep you warm while still maintaining a dry feel and easy to dry outer shell. There are multiple pockets that will keep your valuables handy.

The zipper at the top of the jacket can be customized to either pull down and stay open, or will swing up and down. The Velcro strap on the back of the jacket keeps it securely on your shoulders and keeps your rain gear in place.

I have worn this jacket through a lot of rain, and I haven't felt a wetness on my skin or that water was going into the jacket. I would have to say that this jacket is very good and very durable.

As far as a jacket for rain or winter, I'd give this jacket a good review. This jacket may be a bit expensive, but it's well worth it.
