Dear families and friends of Siena,
Happy Thanksgiving! We made it to Thanksgiving Break and I think I speak for most when I say that we are all ready for some family time and relaxation. Today my colleague Angela Peterson and I were visiting schools to record student videos and you should know that everyone is excited about mashed potatoes!
As I was getting ready to publish this newsletter, the tragedy in Waukesha unfolded. Our hearts break for those who died so senselessly, and the many who are left fighting for their lives and hurting. May we rely on our faith as we pray:
Eternal God, you are our only hope, our sure help in time of trouble. In all times and places, you alone are our strength and stay. Because we trust in you, we dare to believe:
Goodness is stronger than evil;
love is stronger than hate;
light is stronger than darkness;
hope is stronger than despair.
Amen.
God bless,
Kimberly Gardner
Chief Advancement Officer, Siena
Over at OLOGA we have had a great start to the second quarter! Classes have been working on their word families, playing reading games, participating in virtual field trips, making alphabet sound turkeys, participating in virus spreading simulations, learning about energy, state capitals, building prototypes and SO much more! We also spent a lot of time talking about and celebrating our Veterans for Veterans Day! As promised, here are the pictures of the top fundraisers for the SOLES Walk pieing Mrs. Smith and dumping cold water on Mr. V!
We are so blessed to have students trained as our altar servers! Check out Maddie Y. and Sam P. below! We are living and learning our Catholic faith!
As we close this liturgical year, we are reminded that the work of Advent is soon upon us:
To welcome the refugee,
To heal a broken planet,
To feed the hungry,
To build bridges of trust, not walls of fear,
To share our gifts,
To seek justice and peace for all people,
To bring Christ’s light to the world.
All Siena students, faculty, staff, and visitors are required to wear masks at this time. In the event that a positive case is reported, masks greatly diminish the need to quarantine, thus keeping students in school learning.
Families are required to supply clean masks to their students daily.
Please note: this tracker is updated weekly on Mondays.
Happy November! We have a new position in Siena this year to help our academic learners. Diane Putra is no stranger to Catholic education and is our new K-8 math interventionist. Diane taught third grade at Holy Name/St. Richard's from 1986 until 2007.
While heartbroken of the school's closing, she continued her teaching career by moving to St. Edward (now OLOGA) and teaching middle school math/science/religion. Diane felt very blessed to teach in the very same classroom that her mother did while her mother was pregnant with her.
In 2010 Diane moved to St. Catherine's Middle School and taught math, science, and religion (and eventually only math).
In her new role, Diane enjoys traveling to all five locations (Our Lady of Grace, St. Joe, St. Rita, St. Lucy, John Paul II Academy) and seeing 25 classrooms a week. She enjoys seeing how math skills build on each other and how skills are required for progression. Diane also loves working in small groups with students to build one-on-one connections and co-teaching math with some of our teachers.
Diane is an alum – educated at St. Edward ('74), and St. Catherine's ('78). She even continued her Catholic education at St. Norbert College ('82).
We are so blessed to continue to have Diane Putra with us to share her talents.

A feather for each non-perishable item donated. Let’s keep going! Organized by the St. Catherine’s Student Council.
We wish Liz Wendel, Senior Admissions Coordinator of Admissions & Financial Aid, and Kaela Coleman, Alumni Relations Coordinator, the best in their new endeavors. Liz and Kaela have been instrumental in creating strong relationships with our current and past students, parents, staff, and faculty. Thank you for your dedication to Siena Catholic Schools! (Interested in joining the Siena team? Check out job postings here.)
Now is the time to apply for financial aid! Siena Catholic Schools offers financial assistance and different payment options to help make a Catholic education affordable. We also participate in the Racine Parental Choice Program. The first open enrollment to apply for this program is February 1-20, 2021. For more information, contact the Siena Admissions Office at (262) 812-0155.
St. Catherine's has many scholarships for prospective and current students to apply for. Scholarships are a great way to reduce the cost of tuition for high school and they also look great on college applications! To learn more about the scholarships available and how to apply, click here. If you have questions about a specific scholarship, the process, or anything pertaining to scholarships, please call (262) 812-0155.
A team from St. Catherine's, led by Liz Wendel, Senior Admissions Coordinator, visited the K-8 schools twice in the month of October. Seventh and 8th graders were able to learn about dual credit programs offered with Gateway, UW-Parkside, and Cardinal Stritch College, the 4 Year Plan, how to pick courses to prepare for life after high school, clubs and athletics, and STEM courses offered. A Zoom meeting was then held for parents to meet with the SCHS team to learn about the same topics. Over 35 parents joined Zoom and lots of great information was shared!
Are you looking to enroll your child or children at one of our Siena Catholic Schools? If yes, now is the time to consider applying for financial aid. The fall open application period which runs through December 16, 2021, is for families new to Siena Catholic Schools or to a current family with a child entering 9th grade at St. Catherine's. If you have current students in grades K3-8, the spring open application period is for you!
With over 150 years of educating young men and women, St. Catherine's has some outstanding graduates who have made their mark in their chosen path. The St. Catherine's Alumni Hall of Fame is a way to honor those individuals who have made significant contributions to their field of endeavor while living out the Dominican pillars of Community, Prayer, Service, and Study.
This year's St. Catherine's Alumni Hall of Fame was held on November 13, 2021 at 4 p.m.
Welcome James, Jack, O'B, Paul, and Mark!
Catholic Financial Life is holding its annual Give Back Contest in honor of Catholic Schools Week, January 30 to February 5, 2022.
How It Works
Nominate a Catholic school teacher for their remarkable dedication to transforming the lives of their students. The submission deadline is January 7, 2022. Voting will take place from January 17-21 on Catholic Financial Life’s website. Catholic Financial Life will then convene a panel to determine the top three winners based on the number of votes, impact the teacher made, and additional stories that were shared.
The top three teachers will receive a $500 cash prize. Additionally, each winner’s school will also receive a $4,000 donation.
Teachers spend countless hours going above and beyond to ensure students succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Their everyday acts can often go unnoticed, but let’s shine a light on these unsung heroes!
Visit cfl.org/givebackcontest to nominate your favorite Catholic school teacher and for additional contest details.
