Dear families and friends of Siena,
Happy Advent! We've lit the rose-colored candle, which is sometimes called the Gaudete candle (from the Latin word meaning 'rejoice') and are closing in on the fourth Sunday! With so many changes this year -- virtual learning, synchronous teaching, social distancing -- God reminds us to anticipate Jesus' birth and rejoice in the season.
As 2020 winds down, I want to thank every one of you for working through the challenges we've faced together. It has been a year that we won't soon forget for a multitude of reasons, but it has also been a year filled with grace and hope.
Blessings in Christ,
Brenda White
President, Siena Catholic Schools of Racine
A big thank you to all the Siena families that participated in our first Siena-wide event at the Racine Zoo! Over 290 families participated in this event and smiles and laughter were abundant! Children received little trinkets along the trail, had a chance to see the Grinch, and talk to Santa Claus. Santa collected many letters and was excited to return to the North Pole to sit in his comfy chair and read them all!
Thanks to the volunteers! Staff from JPIIA helped hand out flashing buttons and reindeer noses while the Angel Ambassadors passed out holiday sticker sheets, slap bracelets, and an ornament to decorate.
What an amazing way to end 2020! An evening in the company of friends and classmates. From the Siena family to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Check out the videos that some of our schools and students made! These were included on a the sheet of QR codes passed out during the Wonderland of Lights, and we hope that they bring you some Christmas joy!
Some of you may remember Talia, the spunky young daughter of St. Joe's Principal Heidi Hernandez. Talia celebrated one year cancer-free in September, so here's an update!
COVID changed the ways we can celebrate, but how did the Hernandez family celebrate this milestone? We were so blessed with all of the support for our family and Talia since she was diagnosed. We will forever be grateful and pay it forward. We celebrated Talia's one year Cancerversary by hosting an outdoors toy drive for Children's Hospital of WI MACC Fund Center. We collected many toys and filled the back of a pickup truck! When Talia was in the hospital and had her clinic visits, the toys definitely helped her to get through a procedure or her chemo and leave with a smile.
Talia is known to have A LOT of spunk. What is she up to these days? Talia is enjoying being a big sister to Julian and a little (bossy) sister to her big brothers Manny and Isaiah. She loves being in 4K at St. Joe's and looks forward to school each day. She enjoys singing, dancing, and doing gymnastics. During chemo, she was not able to participate in many activities due to her immune system, so dance class and gymnastics were top on her list!
You also had baby number four during Talia's battle. How does Talia like having baby Julian around? We found out we were pregnant with baby number four the month prior to Talia's diagnosis. Looking back, I have no idea how we got through it all, but we had so many prayer warriors that I am sure that is how. Talia loves having a baby brother, but she is very vocal that she wants a baby sister! Sorry Talia! She tries her best to include him when playing and he is learning all about Barbies.
This question is for Talia: do you like pizza or tacos best? For sure tacos! (And candy and snacks...those are a food category according to Talia!)

We understand just how important traditions, travel, and family time is, especially this time of year. While we can't force you to stay home and remain isolated, we do hope that you be as mindful and careful as possible for the sake of your health and the health of our entire school community.
On behalf of Siena Catholic Schools of Racine, thank you.
Giving Tuesday was a success! Thank you to everyone who donated and shared posts on social media. We raised $4,000, which shows the amount of faith our donors and you have in Catholic education.
Congrats to the following community members for sharing posts on social media! They are the proud new winners of an Amazon Echo Dot or $25 Target gift card.

For many St. Catherine’s students, participation on a team or club will have as meaningful of an impact as the classes they take. In order to generate enough revenue to maintain a breadth of vibrant extracurricular offerings, St. Catherine’s hosts The Black & White Ball. Please mark your calendars for April 17, 2021. If you are interested in donating an item for our virtual auction, please take a look at our Amazon Christmas list. https://a.co/cECBiVS
