It is your responsibility to make sure your name is correctly recorded by the University.
Details on how to change your name or gender on your Student Record are available via the University's Your Student Record web page.
This is a formal process and requires some form of evidence. Your final award certificate is a legal document and your name on it must match your legal name at the time the award was conferred.
Please contact the Student Services Information Desk (SSiD) directly if you need any further information.
You can change your name, pronouns and pronunciation of your name in Blackboard without needing to update your formal Student Record. To do this, please follow the instructions on the University's Getting Started with Blackboard web page.
This will update your details in Blackboard and Class Collaborate. It will not change the name listed on your Student Record. However, your changes may intermittently sync back to match those held on your Student Record.
If you'd like to share your pronouns with the School, please complete the School of Psychology - Pronouns form. This will display your pronouns to staff in the School of Psychology who have access to your data on our School system. This data is not held centrally by the University, so will not be shown on your Student Record. We encourage everyone to consider sharing their pronouns with us and come to their own conclusion - please see this blog post by Dr Alon Zivony, the LGBTQI+ lead in the School of Psychology, on why we do.
When sending you an email, PGT Support Staff will always try to address you using your preferred name as held on your Student Record in the "Known As" field. This could be (among other things) a short form of your name, your middle name, or a name totally unrelated to your legal name that you use. To update your "Known As" name, please email psypgt@sheffield.ac.uk and we will make the request on your behalf. Please note that this is not an official change of name process.
The exception to this is when you complete any Google Form to, e.g., submit a request for an extension. Then we'll respond to your request using your name as entered into the form (because we use a mail merge function). When we're creating documents for the PG Conference, such as name badges, you'll be asked for your name and pronouns separately, to make sure we use the most up-to-date information and you can be addressed at the conference however you prefer.
