Extenuating Circumstances are medical or personal difficulties that can affect your academic performance. For example, mental/physical ill health or bereavement.
You can find more information on the University's Extenuating Circumstances web page.
To apply for Extenuating Circumstances you should use the School of Psychology's Google form. This is not linked directly from this website, as we would like you to navigate to the University's Extenuating Circumstances web page and read the information there first, please.
All Extenuating Circumstances requests must be made before the stated deadline each semester. This will be 1-2 days before the Extenuating Circumstances Pre-Examination Board. You may request Extenuating Circumstances after an assignment deadline, but we encourage you to put the request in as soon as you're able to.
When you put in an Extenuating Circumstances request, you'll receive a confirmation email from the School once your request has been processed. Decisions will be made by the Extenuating Circumstances Pre-Examination Board, and will be communicated to you within 5 working days after the board.
As soon as these dates are available, we'll let you know. Last academic year, the dates were as follows - they will be similar again this year:
Semester 1: Friday 7th February 2025
Semester 2: Friday 13th June 2025
Resits & Dissertations: Friday 29th August 2025
If you have a Learning Support Plan (LSP) in place that contains the advice "If [student name] submits an extenuating circumstances form (ECF) for disability-related reasons, do not require them to get a doctor’s statement in support unless absolutely necessary.", or any similar wording, you must still complete the extenuating circumstances form and tick that you have an LSP. Your LSP will then be considered as part of the evidence for your extenuating circumstances request.
