The formal University regulations, including those related to assessment, can be found on the Rules and Regulations webpage.
Aside from the many details given in the regulations, students should be aware of one key fact:
If a module is failed and then failed again at the re-sit assessment, and if both fail marks are less than 40%, then an MSc cannot be awarded and the dissertation (project) cannot be undertaken.
If this occurs in the August resit period (so the project has been completed), then the project mark cannot contribute to the final qualification.
In such cases, a lesser qualification, e.g. a PgCert, may be awarded.
Please note that this is a relatively informal summary of part of the regulations. If there is any ambiguity, then the wording given in the formal regulations will be treated as definitive.
