Risk Assessments



The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, 1992 require employers to assess the risk to the health and safety of their employees (and anyone else who may be affected by their activities) and make arrangements for putting into practice any necessary preventative and protective measures.  Risk assessments of work activities within the Department will be carried out by the staff responsible for their areas and the completed forms to be emailed to the Department Safety Officer (Mark Johnson)


Additional Training


All Staff who complete or sign off Risk Assessments are required complete this General Risk Assessment Techniques training.



All completed Risk Assessments must be submitted at least 2 weeks before the activity is to commence.

Risk assessments of work activities within the Department must be carried out and signed by the person directing the work or in control of the area.


One completed the Risk Assessment must be sent to all staff and students who will be participating in the activity for them to read.


All Risk Assessments must be reviewed and countersigned when a significant change is made to the process/activity or within the specified timeframe. 


Formal review deadlines are; 


General Risk Assessment – 24 months 

Fieldtrip Risk Assessment – 12 months
