Fire Safety

To report a fire, the University telephone is 4444, or 0114222444 from a mobile

There is a Fire Alarm sound test every Wednesday at 10am

The alarm will sound for no more that 30 seconds

You do not need to leave the building during this sound test.

If you hear the Fire Alarm at any other time you must leave the building via the stairs in a orderly manner and go to the assembly point which is under the Concourse.

Fire Marshals

Due to the layout of the building space and also hybrid working policy, it is difficult to strictly police the Fire Marshal policy of dedicated fire marshal staff. Due to the fact that all staff are Fire Marshal trained, it has been agreed by the Health & Safety Committee that two High Vis Fire Marshal Vests will be stationed on each floor, and when a fire alarm is triggered, any staff in the building at that time will collect a vest and walk the floor they are on and check everyone leaves the building, then makes their own way out.

NB: Fire drills are conducted annually by the Fire Safety team and Facilities Managers.

All staff are required to participate and evacuate the building.
