Welcome and introduction
When: Monday 18 September 2023, 11am-1pm.
Where: Dainton Building, Lecture Theatre 1
In this session:
you will be introduced to some of the key people who will play a major role in the next three years of your life;
you will be given an overview of the essential IT services that you will have to use during your studies;
we will have a social mixer so you can meet other mathematics students.
If you can, please bring a digital device.

Academic writing and course work support
When: Tuesday 19 September 2023, 11am-12pm
Where: Arts Tower, Lecture Theatre 1
In this session:
This session aims to raise your awareness of the variety of optional academic writing and course work support services that are available to all students (home and international) at all levels within the University. You will be given an opportunity to register for support including how to sign up for 1:1s in either written or spoken academic English.
We will also provide details of the academic writing and coursework support sessions that are included in your timetable. These have been designed with the academics who will teach you and will run alongside your modules.

University Session: Race and Consent Conversations
When: Tuesday 19 September 2023, 2pm-4pm

In this session:
Race Conversations (2pm-3pm)
This session aims to explore race and racism, particularly racial inequality in the UK. The session will include examples of privilege, microaggressions as well as reflective and interactive questions on diversifying the curriculum and tackling difficult conversations. We will also discuss practical intervention tips, equipping our students with skills to safely intervene and protect themselves and or the victim(s). The session will be a mixture of presentation and interactivity.
Consent Conversations (3pm-4pm)
This session will cover key topics on sexual consent, what the law says, some myths and facts about sexual consent and what an active bystander might look like. The session will be a mixture of presentation and interactivity.

Essential study skills and information
When: Wednesday 20 September 2023, 11am-1pm.
Where: Hicks Building, Lecture Theatre 1
In this session:
you will be given your core maths notes;
you will learn about the different module content and be introduced to the lecturers who will teach you;
you will learn how lectures, problems classes, office hours and tutorials work, and how to engage with your studies.

you will begin working on your first mathematical assignment;
