7th Grade Art

By Annie

The Sevens are back in the art studio working on a printmaking unit! They started by exploring color mixing and monoprints and are now working on a multiple color reductive block print to accompany a poem they wrote in Lydia’s class inspired by Langston Hughes’ poem, “I too”. Not only do they need to draw imagery to convey their message but they need to think about negative and positive space and removing and adding layers as part of the process. It is a fun puzzle to figure out and produces beautiful art.

When we finish the block prints we will be creating art inspired by Social Justice. After looking at other artist’s work for inspiration, students will create their own piece, choosing from a variety of mediums, to communicate a compelling visual artwork to accompany their Pay It Forward research. It will be a term filled with creative purpose and we look forward to sharing the results on May 21 at the culmination.
