For our Fall unit on Graphic and Digital Arts, students are focusing on the Principles of Design. Because we will be having dense conversations while learning new technologies, it seemed wise that we should have some tea to slow us down and keep our focus. Students created paint pen mugs based on patterns, repetitions, and rhythms that inspired them. The results were quite stunning! Check out our little assortment to the right.
This week we started using our brand new Canon T6i Rebel Cameras! The students learned some basic camera functions and we had a deep dive into the four main variables that control our cameras: light, aperture, shutter speed and ISO. The students, using these skills, went on a Visual Scavenger Hunt hunting for the principles of design in our natural world.
Today I challenged them to capture action shots (with a quick shutter speed) so they appear frozen in the middle of intense action and movement shots (longer shutter speed) which showcases motion. We also changed our Aperture so we could practice shallow depth of field and vast depth of field. There will be lots more to come but in the meantime, here are some favorites picked by the students:
