Did You Know? presentations are the 7th grade Community Meeting contribution. Students originally submitted proposals of their areas of interest in a range of topics, all of which must have a Washington State history component. The submissions included everything from gentrification of the Central District, to Thea Foss, to Amazon's impact, to sexism in sports. For the past three weeks, the 7th graders have been completing research on the Did You Know? topics they were assigned. They have gathered information from websites, encyclopedias, interviews, and non-fiction texts. Some students transitioned from their original path to pursue a related area that they discovered through research, such as Levi who narrowed focus from Native Seattle to the Duwamish Tribe and Chief Seattle. The work that students do now, from gathering and organizing information, parsing the reliability of resources, and presenting at Community Meeting will lay a solid groundwork that they will need for completion of their Pay It Forward project.
