SUMMER 2022 ALUMNI
QUELYNDA TAVERAS
How would you describe your EP to someone who has never heard of it before?
My EP, AFS, is a travel EP that sends you off to the country of your choice during the summer. I chose France and I was sent off to a French language camp, CMEF, in a town called Cap D’Ail.
What is a typical day like during your EP?
You’re woken up at 7:30am, go to breakfast, and then go to French class for 1 hour and 30 minutes, have a 30 minute break, and then do another hour and 30 minutes. Afterwards, you go to lunch and then have the opportunity to sign up for a variety of activities. You can go to Nice, Monaco (a country really close to Cap D’Ail), or any other French towns/cities with camp counselors or independently in groups of 3 or more. You can also do water or sports activities outside the camp. At night, the camp has a bunch of activities and games such as Just Dance, sports competitions, and fun tournaments.
What was the biggest challenge of your EP?
Adjusting to being in a camp and away from home was a big challenge, especially when there was a lack of resources you typically have at home, such as AC, ice, and good WiFi.
What was the biggest reward of your EP?
Exploring the most beautiful parts of France and meeting wonderful people along the way.
What do you wish you had known before you went on your EP?
I wish I knew in advance what the living situation was like because I wasn’t really aware beforehand. I thought we would be staying at a hotel or college campus, but it was a summer camp. Regardless, I got used to it.
What advice do you have for future SEO scholars who are considering your EP?
Have fun and make the most of it because this is a once-in-a lifetime opportunity that can change your life in the best ways possible.
