How would you describe your EP to someone who has never heard of it before?
America on Tech 360 is a coding program in which you learn various coding languages such as HTML, Bootstrap, and CSS. Most of the program is online, but it’s pretty easy to follow and you receive a lot of help from the program manager and the instructor. You build a new community with your peers as you build a website together and compete amongst other groups. Tech 360 is also a great networking experience if you decide to continue your coding journey.
What is a typical day like during your EP?
Being part of America on Tech 360 meant that you have to arrive at the destination for the day’s lessons or be signed on to zoom. Every morning the instructor and program manager greet you with a smile and then you get onto the lesson. Each day a new lesson is introduced and then there will be work time in which you are able to practice on your own. At the end of class, we talk about our progress and how the lesson went.
What was the biggest challenge of your EP?
The biggest challenge of my EP was having to look on a computer screen for such a long time. Constantly looking at the screen for 4 hours wasn't the best for me, but it was worth it in the end. Additionally, the internet was sometimes a problem and missing important information was hard during those times. Having to be online, in zoom, was a struggle as I continued my EP.
What was the biggest reward of your EP?
The biggest reward of my EP was being able to continue learning coding languages and having a better understanding of them. This program really helped me figure out if coding was something I wanted to continue. Another big reward was creating a network by attending this program. At the end of the program, we are able to continue our coding journey through their other programs that they provide us with.
What do you wish you had known before you went on your EP?
Something I wish I had known before I went on my EP was probably knowing how a coding experience is. I feel like coding was definitely a good experience but there were times where I struggled the most. I would have definitely wanted to hear someone’s experience with coding so I would’ve known what I was gonna learn.
What advice do you have for future SEO scholars who are considering your EP?
Some advice I have for future SEO scholars who are considering my EP is to not be afraid to ask for help. If you want to try coding, it can be hard but don’t stop yourself from asking the people around you for the help you need. You and your peers are learning together and it isn’t fair that you stay behind because you can do it too. Don’t allow yourself to stay behind, ask questions and learn because this program is about learning.
