How would you describe your EP to someone who has never heard of it before?
I was interning but at first we didn’t actually know where. However we did have zoom meetings we would join over the school year where we’d learn about tips for going into the legal field and actually had a chance to ask questions. Then as the school year comes to a close you find out where you'll be interning, I was an intern at Kelley Drye & Warren in Manhattan.
What is a typical day like during your EP?
First I woke up at 6am to get ready and be out the door by 7:30, I would take the 5 train to the 3 World Trade Center and if I felt like it, I’d get some breakfast before coming in. Then I had to used my keycard to open the small gate and since I worked in the records department, had to take an elevator all the way to the 67th floor. I’d get there at about 8:30 to spend time with my friends, Nisa and Adrianyeli, who were also interns or get a head start on some tasks. At 12:15 I have my lunch break so I pick up my food and go to my desk, the lounge or the terrace on floor 17. At 1:15 I’d get back to work until 5:30 and I would go home. There were several different tasks I had to do which included packaging up folders, labeling documents to their appropriate client, creating new folders or inserts, filing documents, and putting folders back on the shelf, since I was in the Records department.
What was the biggest challenge of your EP?
Trying not to stress out or rush my work. I have a huge habit of trying to complete work asap but this EP really helped me calm down a bit and slow down enough to where my work is getting done quickly and efficiently.
What was the biggest reward of your EP?
Making new friends and securing a job for the next summer to come.
What do you wish you had known before you went on your EP?
To not stress out so much, it’s basic but it’s what I really needed to hear because I was so nervous asking people if they had anything I could help them with or work on.
What advice do you have for future SEO scholars who are considering your EP?
Ask questions! The people are there to help you as much as you are there to help them.
Take your time. It’s better to get through something at your own pace and have little to no mistakes than to rush through it and have several mistakes.
Socialize! It’s basic but it helps a lot, you won’t feel as lonely at the internship and you’ll have people who share the same experience with you.
