How would you describe your EP to someone who has never heard of it before?
My EP was the Summer @ Brown pre-college program. Basically, I spent three weeks on campus at Brown in a dorm. I lived with a roommate and I had one course I would go to every day with the weekends off. I did the intro to clinical psychology course which was set up like a basic lecture. The professor would talk and teach his lesson while students would take notes from the powerpoint. They usually assign you homework throughout the course but, my professor just did a big project at the end of the course which was a 10-12 page research paper along with a powerpoint on the main points from the research paper.
What is a typical day like during your EP?
A typical day at my EP was that I would get up around 10 to get ready for class. My classes started at 12:15 so before then I would go to the Blue Room which was a place where students could get sandwiches. Then, I would go to class and come out at around 2:30-3, depending on how fast we finish the lesson. Then, I would go to the library with a friend to study and work on my paper for an hour and then we would go out to the town area to eat and shop a bit. Then, we would sit in the main area in front of the Ratty (dining hall) and talk till it was curfew, which is when I would go back to my dorm, check in with my RA and then go back to my dorm, shower, and sleep.
What was the biggest challenge of your EP?
The biggest challenge was the heat, time management, and adulting. It was super hot in the dorms and the heat was so unbearable. Also, timing out how much time I needed to get ready and be able to get to class early was hard as I didn’t know when it was too early or too late. Also, you have to take care of yourself and embrace being alone. I would usually go into town alone to go get groceries and drinks and also come home to clean and do my laundry.
What was the biggest reward of your EP?
My biggest reward was the final project. It was time consuming and I had never done a research paper or even written something so long before. It was a new experience but overall, I was really proud of myself for getting through it and I was satisfied with the final project as I had been working on it over the course of the class.
What do you wish you had known before you went on your EP?
BRING A GOOD FAN!! You can’t bring AC and it gets so hot… no but actually I underestimated the heat and I had to ask my parents to bring me another one cause it was a SAUNA in my room. The heat in Rhode Island is just different. Also, try to be a social butterfly. Trust me, I made some really good friends in that last week of the program which I regret because I hadn’t talked to them earlier!! Honestly if you’re afraid of being out there you probably won’t see these people ever again in your life unless you choose to have them in your life so be out there!!
What advice do you have for future SEO scholars who are considering your EP?
If you are interested in a specific course and want to have that college experience, this place will give it to you. If you are trying to figure out if you want to go out of state for college, this place will give it to you. Honestly, just try and be out there wherever you go, make new friends and connections with people while you can, and just have fun :D

How would you describe your EP to someone who has never heard of it before?
Summer @ Brown is an intensive program where you can choose from over hundreds of courses that Brown University provides. You are able to live on campus to get the college experience and eat at the dining rooms that are open. Summer @ Brown can set the precedent of what college is going to look like and be like for you. Although you do not get to choose when the class you chose is going to happen, you still have a free schedule to do whatever you want or maximize your time to do your obligations. Brown University is a really big campus where you can explore and find different places on campus. To add on, if you like to walk, places are close enough for you to walk to; also if you want to ride a bike, or ride a scooter you can ; these things are so accessible. Last thing, Brown provides a lot of different clubs throughout the day over the course of 3 weeks.

What was the biggest challenge of your EP?
I think the biggest challenge of my EP is that since my class was in the morning and finished before noon, it was hard to find things to do on my own time. My course wasn't hard because I picked the drawing intensive but I think it was challenging to be alone and what I should do. I would want to do things like go to the moves on my own but I wouldn't. This is something I work on before attending college.
What was the biggest reward of your EP?
The biggest reward was making new friends and meeting new people who come from many countries around the world and interacting with people who come from different socioeconomic backgrounds(validating my beliefs).
What do you wish you had known before you went on your EP?
Nothing really, I think I learned a lot about myself and college with my EP and I am so grateful that I chose this because I am more prepared for what is coming my way when it comes to college.
What advice do you have for future SEO scholars who are considering your EP?
Do not be afraid to get out of your comfort zone and interact with people, make new friends.
Pick a course that can be a hobby for you or something that you are interested in for your career path. Don't pick a course that will stress you out?
Have fun, attend the parties that people are hosting, and go to the activities and clubs that Brown students host. Ride the scooters as well.
Go to places that surround Brown University; like malls and restaurants and beaches.

How would you describe your EP to someone who has never heard of it before?
At Summer@Brown, I studied organic chemistry and biochemistry and lived in a dorm with other students. I also attended several in-person activities where I socialized with students from different states and countries and experienced Brown University’s campus life.
What is a typical day like during your EP?
At Summer@Brown, I hung out with my SEO friends before and after class and explored Brown University’s campus. Before class, we ate breakfast at one of Brown’s three dining halls that were open and walked around the campus. After class, we met with other people from the program and went to other places outside the campus such as Providence Mall and Easton’s Beach. After that, we went to the Nelson Fitness Center and the Olney-Margolies Athletic Center (OMAC), Brown’s largest fitness center, to play basketball and lift weights. Finally, we ate dinner together, chilled in my friend’s lounge, and played UNO or watched a movie.
What was the biggest challenge of your EP?
The biggest challenge was managing my time at Brown and having enough time to do homework and have fun with my friends. Even though we had the freedom to go anywhere in Rhode Island, we had to return to our dorms by 10 pm. Therefore, my classmates and I worked on homework together in John D. Rockefeller Jr. Library, one of Brown’s five on-campus libraries, and went to the places after. There were many things to do on Brown’s campus and we made sure to join as many activities as we could every day.
What was the biggest reward of your EP?
The biggest reward was having the freedom to go anywhere in Rhode Island because we were able to go to Newport and visit their beaches by ourselves. Also, we were allowed to throw our own parties in Brown’s lounges, which brought many people together to party and have fun. I really miss going to many places and doing many things with my friends in Summer@Brown because I barely had anything to worry about and I got to do things that I used to do before high school such as going to beaches and parties.
What do you wish you had known before you went on your EP?
I wish I knew there were more activities I could’ve gone to outside of Brown’s campus by signing up. For example, I could’ve gone to a couple of concerts and Providence’s WaterFire event if I signed up ahead of time. I also wish I went to Brown’s college application process events so that I would get feedback on my personal statement.
What advice do you have for future SEO scholars who are considering your EP?
One piece of advice I have for future SEO scholars considering Summer@Brown is to make sure to pack everything on the Summer@Brown website so that you won’t have to go out of your way to buy them when you could be having more fun on campus. Another piece of advice I have is to sign up for as many activities as you can so that you can maximize your fun on Brown’s campus. This is because a lot of the activities are free and allow you to visit more places and do more things such as kayaking and going to Boston.
