Sonepur
`
In the month of November-December every year a cattle fair is held in Sonepur, Bihar. The fair traditionally starts on Kartik Poornima. The Sonepur Cattle Fair has its origins in ancient times and was a venue where elephants, horses, and other livestock were traded. Today, the fair still features the trade of various animals, including cattle, horses, birds, camels, goats, and dogs. It has evolved into a major cultural and tourist attraction, drawing visitors from all parts of India and abroad. I have intervened at the banks of Gandak River in a mango tree farm. A setting that becomes even more vibrant during the cattle fair when 9 to 10 elephants are present. My primary intention is to create a space where people can engage with and observe these magnificent creatures in their natural environment. Additionally, the café is thoughtfully crafted to allow observation of the surrounding trees at three different levels, each level offers its own unique and intimate experience, creating a space where nature's charm can be fully appreciated and enjoyed. A key feature of this café is the viewing deck, thoughtfully positioned to allow visitors a clear and elevated view over the nearby river.
