The Fort Kochi Boat Jetty acts as a main gateway point for the entire island - Fort Kochi. The jetty connects the island to the other 3 islands-Ernakulam , Vypin and wellington island. Two biennales - Pepper House and Moidu's Heritage are nearby the Fort Kochi Boat Jetty.
Site Analysis-
While researching about The Fort Kochi Boat Jetty I found out that is really gets crowded by the locals during the peak hours because it is the cheapest mode of transport. The narrow stretch from the land to the jetty gets crowded because of the vehicles parked .The jetty gets more crowded during the biennale due to the increase in tourism.
Intent-
The Fort Kochi Boat Jetty serves as the primary gateway for the biennale, anchoring a rich historical significance as the central hub for locals commuting between islands due to its cost-effectiveness compared to other modes of transport. Beyond its role during the biennale, the jetty has been a lifeline for the community. Recognizing its importance, the designed space, whether a café or gathering area, is intended not only for biennale attendees but primarily for the local residents. The objective is to create a seamless transition for the crowd, deviating from congestion. The envisioned space THE FLOATING OASIS is conceived as a meeting ground where both tourists and locals can converge, fostering the exchange of ideas and cultural interactions. Importantly, the design maintains an authentic reflection of Fort Kochi, eschewing a generic tourist-centric café in favor of a space that resonates with the local identity, ensuring a secure and familiar environment for the community.
The Idea of Floating Oasis pays homage to the rich maritime heritage of the region, seamlessly integrating with the cultural fabric of Fort Kochi. The floating café, anchored by the allure of Chinese fishing net aesthetics, not only captures the attention of tourists but becomes a source of pride for the locals, connecting them to their maritime roots.
