Rann Utsav is a annual festival celebrated in Dhordo, a village in Kutch, Gujarat. The Rann Utsav, which began as a three-day festival in 2006 has grown into a four-month fair that takes place every year between November and February, from every first full moon night. The area where the festival is celebrated is spread over 5,00,000 sq. mt. A grand tent city having about 300 tents is set up at Dhordo, 85 km from Bhuj. The earthquake of 2002 had demolished the demography and the economy of Gujarat, especially the Kutch district. In the aftermath of the earthquake, government had formulated plans to host a festival in Rann of Kutch to revamp the economy of Kutch by shifting the economy to tourism and support the local artisans and craftsmen. Economic growth, promotion of Kutch's natural and cultural splendor, and social uplift were the event's primary goals, which took place in a region with few infrastructures and a small population.
