This unit is adapted from NMAI’s The A:shiwi (Zuni) People: A Study in Environment, Adaptation, and Agricultural Practices curriculum. “By focusing on the A:shiwi (Ahh-SHE-we) people of the American Southwest, students will learn about the connection Native people have to their natural world. Students will make observations about how the A:shiwi (also known as Zuni) people adapt to their environment and the cyclical aspect of their cultural and agricultural practices. Students will expand their knowledge through independent research on another Native community and their interactions with the natural world.” (NMAI)
The unit overview expands on the unit description and includes goals and an optional assessment.
This unit contains three 90-minute lessons, which could be expanded into seven lessons depending on time constraints.
