Welcome to Week 5: Social Isolation

Hello Online Brain Fitness Students,

Welcome to Week 5 of our Summer Online Brain Fitness Class! This week we have another informative and timely lesson you won’t want to miss. It’s on Social Isolation and Older Adults. All links can be found below.

Last Week

We explored the fascinating realm of experiences that shape our brain and make us unique; from human history to personal human growth. We examined internal and external forces in the development of the uniqueness of our brain. And we learned about ways to rewire our brain to a happier and healthier life!

This Week

Does the word "isolation" conjure up thoughts of quarantine, seclusion, and limited physical contact for you? Although this is all true, social isolation goes beyond these definitions. In this lesson, we will look at some definitions of social isolation, the extent of the problem, its effects on mental and physical health, and what we can do to cope and stay connected, even during challenging times. You can learn about the numbers, the outcome of isolation, how it looks in our brain, and what we can do to combat social isolation. Visit our Lesson Homepage by clicking here. If you like, you can also download the handout. Show us what you learned by taking the quiz.
