Healing Spaces and Places Lesson

Many of our normal routines have come to a temporary halt and we find it necessary to adjust how we live and find new routines and new ways to stay positive. In this age of information, we have a wonderful tool we can use to help us stay connected with what is happening in the world, and with our families and loved ones. We can continue to learn, grow, and experience innovative new forms of communication if we work to keep alive our sense of commitment to positive aging, no matter what. It’s not easy, but the key to getting through this can be summed up in one word: Resilience!

In lieu of our regularly planned lesson this week, we felt it timely to explore the wonderful concept of healing spaces and places. Going forward, we will be introducing several lessons that explore the “Healing Power of . . .” various things in our lives. The lesson this week will explore how our surroundings can contribute to our healing and well-being in general, and how our environment affects our brain. The BrainHQ Connection

As Debbie explains in her Healing Spaces Lesson, there is a healing space within each one of us that we can access whenever we want to - within our brains.

In 2014, the Dalai Lama, who is very interested in science and neuroplasticity, visited with Dr. Michael Merzenich and Dr. Edward Taub, in Alabama to learn how their work in brain plasticity was being used to help people with neurological challenges. His visit was prompted by the work of Dr. Taub who had pioneered a revolutionary approach to stroke rehabilitation. Dr. Merzenich's explained how the same principles can be applied to promote healing and alleviate pain in everyone. If you'd like to learn more about this meeting, you can click here to hear a partial podcast of their meeting about the healing power of the brain.
