Brain Plasticity Lesson

Because of the discovery of brain plasticity, we now know that we can change our brains for the better as we age. We are already doing it with the BrainHQ exercises. When we understanding how brain plasticity works, we can continue to learn to incorporate brain-strengthening techniques into our everyday activities, as well. This reading includes some pretty interesting research demonstrating the success of brain plasticity, and links to several great videos which explain further about it.

For those who appreciate a simple Power Point to follow, check out this slide presentation which can be used along with the lesson to better understand the concept of brain plasticity. For the ultimate experience, you can view the presentation, narrated by Mary. Almost like being right there with her! This video is found on YouTube. Now that you know what and how important synapse are, did you know we have about half as many synapses as adults as we did when we were young, and that that’s actually okay? Be sure to view the videos to learn why, and to get a glimpse into a bright and promising future based on what science is learning about brain plasticity.

The BrainHQ Connection

The BHQ Connection: The BHQ website has a great deal of information about brain plasticity, in fact, it’s what the whole program and the exercises were based on. Look over the articles in the following resource section on the BHQ website to learn more. Read: Brain Plasticity Basics, The Brain: Changing the adult mind through the power of plasticity, and . If you are intrigued by this topic (and who isn't?), please watch the founder of Posit Science, Dr. Michael Merzenich's TED talk (23 minutes) about The Power of Brain Plasticity.
