Abstract

The study determined the managerial competencies and challenges of front line managers of the selected department stores in Bacoor City. The study employed the descriptive research method and utilized a survey questionnaire form as the primary instrument in data gathering. The statistical tools used were the frequency and percentage count, weighted mean and average mean. The findings revealed that the front line managers perceived themselves to be “competent” in their self-awareness, customer service, problem-solving, leadership and communication of which all the indicators listed on each area were “often” done or applied by them in their work. Corollary, they encountered major challenges along with their basic management functions which include: preparation of operational plans, arrangement and display of products; provision of timely coaching and mentoring to the staff in need; and monitoring individual performance. As a measure to overcome those challenges, training workshops on the mentioned challenges experienced may be initiated by the management of the selected malls in Bacoor City.
