Abstract
This study aims to determine the perceptions and barriers in effectively conducting a research, particularly in the beliefs and abilities of students to perform a certain task. A total of sixty-five (65) students were involved in the research: Thirty (30) from Tourism Management and thirty-five (35) from Hospitality Management. An online survey questionnaire was utilized as the main instrument to identify the perceptions of students, along with the opinions that hindered when creating a research. Results revealed that students have positive perceptions towards research and that there is a strong relationship between the beliefs of their personal ability and views to conduct a research. Barriers were indicated in four skills: writing, communication, self-esteem, and analytical skills. Researchers found that that they find it difficult to create a research paper and do not know what they would be going to do. Students suggested that brainstorming within their groupmates is one of the most essential tasks to help them understand what the research is all about. Other participants should be informed of various plans so that they can respond to a specific aspect of their research subject.
