Abstract
The study assessed the perceptions of the selected tourism students, barangay officials, and residents toward the implementation of the sustainable tourism development programs in Bacoor City, Cavite, Philippines. The researcher adopted the descriptive method of research to obtain the profile of the respondents. It described and interpreted the nature of current situation that existed at the time of study and justified the current situation. A researcher-made survey questionnaire was prepared and validated by the tourism experts. The study covered 100 respondents of Barangays Taliban I, II, III, V, VI, and VII; tourism students, second year to fourth year levels of St. Dominic College of Asia, and the employees of the Local Government Unit of Bacoor City, Cavite. All the data were analyzed using percentage, weighted mean, and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The highest number of stakeholders effectively performed their roles in the implementation of the sustainable development tourism programs but requires appropriate budgetary allotment for capacity training. They were efficient, however somewhat effective only in the implementation of funds, the process of which requires a revisit of the annual investment plan of the city. Hence, the educational attainment, occupation, civil status, number of years in the service, affiliation with schools or professional organizations and the common problems encountered by the respondents, and sources of funds were statistically significant as factors that effectively impacted toward the sustainability of the tourism programs of Bacoor City. It is concluded that human, financial, and other material resources closely link with the sustainability of the tourism programs of Bacoor City, Cavite. An established linkage with tourism-affiliated service providers, and or directly with the Department of Tourism would benefit the Local Government Unit (LGU) concerned brought about by the professional experiences that the stakeholders had acquired in the past years. Hence, to succeed in the promotion and implementation of the tourism programs aside from the realities espoused by the stakeholders, they may initiate their own initiatives and enhance them as they have learned or will learn more from the practices of other LGUs for a viable tourism growth and development which will impact the socio-economic growth of Bacoor City.
