Abstract
A teacher plays a very significant and vital role in knowledge or learning formation and dissemination; thus, a student will find learning more rewarding if he finds his teacher is competent and the teaching is very effective. The study assessed the competencies of laboratory teachers from the School of Health Science Professions using the Hyflex platform as an innovative learning technique for students. The research made use of descriptive research, and by using a self-made questionnaire, these were statistically computed using specific tools such as frequency and percentage, weighted mean, t-test, and chi-square test. Based on the salient findings of this study, the School of Health Science Professions’ laboratory teachers are young and dominated with males. The study revealed that the teachers are competent in the areas of planning and teaching materials, instructional strategies, communication skills, and evaluation tools using the Hyflex platform. There is a significant difference in the perceptions of the students and teachers themselves in their competencies. There is a significant relationship between the competencies of the teachers and their years of experience in the teaching profession and forms of training attended. A seminar training course could help the laboratory teachers to improve their competencies and skills.
