Relevance of accounting software literacy: A giant step for undergraduates’ skills development

Abstract

This research was conceptualized to analyze the perspective of Accountancy students regarding the Relevance of Accounting Software Literacy as a giant step for their skills development. Since Accounting software is proven to be used frequently in most companies nowadays, the study attempts to provide enough evidence regarding the dominant role of Accounting Software in every business around the world, and how it can affect a student’s competence when they enter a workplace, since some learning institutions do not provide brief or thorough training to their students regarding accounting software.

The researchers used a descriptive survey method to gather information regarding the stated issue and the statistical instruments used were frequency and percentage distribution, weighted mean and the One-Way Analysis of Data (ANOVA). The results indicated that the majority of the students gathered a weighted mean of 4.68 in terms of knowledge acquisition and knowledge development and 4.79 in terms of skills and competence which stated a strongly agree opinion. On the other hand, in the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) the overall effect of the knowledge related factors under F is 10.324, which is greater than the total f-critical value of 8.598 resulted in the significant difference and thus we reject H0.

Therefore, Accountancy students’ perspective regarding accounting software literacy is relevant in developing a students’ skills development, and believed that it must be learned as soon as possible, while they are still in the learning institution to be exact for them to be more competent when they enter the corporate world.
