Abstract

This study deals with the longitudinal inquiry into the Buhay Senior High School in achieving quality academics designed to bridge the Department of Education (DepEd) Accounting, Business, and Management (ABM) Curriculum Guide for specialized courses and the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) policies, standards and guidelines for Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. This study is focused on achieving quality education after identifying the gap among curriculum guides of DepEd for senior high school; the CMO No. 03 of 2007 and CMO No. 27 of 2017 for Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. Fifty-two (52) senior high school graduates and seven (7) teachers who are currently teaching both in senior high school and in college program participated in the study. This study used the questionnaire as the primary tool in collecting data, designed to obtain information on the views of the respondents concerning the life of senior high school in achieving quality academics. The perception of the respondents as to whether Buhay Senior High School had achieved quality academics as to prepare the graduates for the world of work showed a mean value of 3.10 interpreted as great extent, implying that some of the ABM graduates still felt inadequate in entering the accounting work force. The mean value of 3.00 for preparing graduates for higher education seemed moderately low as it was interpreted as great extent suggesting inadequacy of either of the curriculum guide or the capacity of accounting teacher in senior high school. It is recommended that the mind map can be used to provide help for struggling students so they can identify what they need to focus on.
