Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the role of online grammar checkers in the development of students’ grammar skills and to propose instructional guidelines based on the results of the study. This research explored whether online grammar checkers can help learners develop their grammar skills. This study employed an experimental research design to see how well students can check their own grammar using and without online grammar checkers. Eighty-four (84) senior high school students from St. Dominic College of Asia are the respondents to this study, which was divided into experimental and control groups. The researchers formulated a survey questionnaire as the data gathering instrument, which was used to analyze and comprehend the responses gathered from the respondents. The results presented a relatively positive perception, where the majority of the students perceive that online grammar checkers have good qualities and can be useful in editing their written academic texts. This finding assumes that while the majority of the SHS students have a positive perception of using online grammar checkers, it also shows that a large proportion have a high proficiency in grammar since they can identify and fix grammar errors even without the use of online grammar checkers. However, although the difference in the control group is slightly higher than the experimental group, no significant difference has been identified between the control and experimental groups of students in terms of error rates.
