Western Inspirational Bursary Award

This $750.00 bursary offered by Western Financial Group.  This bursary award is not a scholarship for high academic achievement. It is a character award that aims to recognize the students in our communities who have overcome various adversities, including mental health, physical disability, discrimination, financial hardship, or family issues.

Despite these challenges, these students have demonstrated kindness, determination, and courage to graduate high school and continue their education through post-secondary institutions, trade schools, online courses, or the military.

The Trevor Linden Community Spirit Scholarship

This $2500 Scholarship recognizes four student leaders in the province of British Columbia who are entering their first year of post-secondary education, are in good academic standing and have made exceptional contributions in the following areas: school and community service, leadership, initiating community development, affecting positive change, mentoring others, personal development and growth, and good academic performance.  Please note:  This application cannot be submitted electronically.  You must mail through the postal service.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Harry deSwager Bursary Fund

This award is designed to assist Teen Mentors with financing post-secondary or vocational training.  Applicants must have been a Teen Mentor with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Victoria in the current or past school year.

Peninsula Co-op Scholarships

14 scholarships, totaling $15,000, are offered in the areas of athletics, community service, academic excellence, overcoming adversity, etc.  Students apply directly through the University of Victoria or Camosun College websites.

Beacon Community Services Scholarship

This $1500 scholarship is open to graduating students who demonstrate exemplary volunteerism or community service. At least some of a candidate’s leadership or volunteer/community service must be identified as having been done within an area covered by Beacon’s geographic boundaries.

Save on Foods Joint Diversity Scholarship 

Up to ten $1,000 scholarships are available and will be awarded to applicants who have promoted diversity awareness and acceptance in their community and have not previously received the Joint Diversity Scholarship. This scholarship is available to students who are BC residents and are going to be pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited institution within the province of BC in the fall.

British Columbia Arts Council Scholarships

This scholarship provides funding of up to $6,000 per year to outstanding BC arts students attending full-time studies in a fine-arts diploma or degree program at a recognized college, university, institution or academy, in any country. Recognized disciplines of study  include:  arts administration, community-based arts practice, museology, conservation, dance, media arts, theatre, music, curatorial practice, and visual art.

The Sooke Fire Fighters Annual Scholarship  

The Sooke Fire Fighters Annual Scholarship recognizes and rewards a graduating student-resident of

Sooke.  Sooke Fire Fighters are committed to not only the protection of our community, but also to its growth and support.  Just as fire fighters are synonymous with service, initiative, and selflessness, the scholarship will acknowledge applicants who exemplify these same attributes through dedication and leadership in service of school and community.

Sooke Principals' and Vice-Principals' Association (SPVPA) Bursary

Annual scholarships will be awarded to one student graduating from each of our district secondary schools. In addition, one scholarship will be awarded to recognize a graduate with Indigenous ancestry. 

This is awarded to students who have done well in school work, participated in aspects of school life (clubs, sports, leadership, music, theatre, etc.), been involved in outside of school activities, registered (or will be registering) for post-secondary.

Dave Gifford Memorial & Zone Scholarships (BC School Sports)

The Dave Gifford Memorial Scholarships were created in his honour to recognize students who excel in both athletic and scholastic pursuits. Two (2) $1500 scholarships will be awarded to students from across the province.  In addition, two (2) $750 scholarships will be awarded for each BCSS athletic zone.

Bert and Greta Quartermaine Badminton Scholarship (BC School Sports)

The Bert & Greta Quartermaine Badminton Scholarship rewards excellence in both scholastic and athletic pursuits.  The successful applicants will be student-athletes who have balanced their achievements as badminton athletes with significant success as leaders and contributors to their community.  Six $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to the most worthy candidates (a minimum of two males and two females)

BC Dairy Association Scholarship (BC School Sports)

The BC Dairy Association Scholarship rewards student-athletes who exemplify school spirit, practice a healthy lifestyle, and engage with their community.  Seven $1000 scholarships are available to students who meet the scholarship criteria.

BCSS Indigenous Student-Athlete (BC School Sports)

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide recognition to Indigenous students. BCSS is dedicated to assisting worthy student-athletes in their desire to attend an Accredited Post-Secondary School.

Two (2) $750 scholarships will be awarded to one male and one female.

BC Transplant "Live Life. Pass it On"  Scholarship

BC Transplant will award four $1500 scholarships to grade 12 students who lead an organ donation awareness project in their school or community during the current school year.

Dr. Donald Rix Inspiring Business Excellence Scholarship ($2500)

Applicants must be either Indigenous, an immigrant OR rural.  Participation in high school business courses is required.

Jim Hebden Chemistry Bursary

This bursary (Value: $1000) is awarded to someone who can demonstrate formidable financial need.  Students must demonstrate proficiency in chemistry and have completed Chemistry 12 by the end of June of their graduating year.  Students must be planning to pursue further study in a chemistry related field (chemistry, nursing, engineering).

Judy Bourne Memorial Scholarship   

Several scholarships are available for students of Indigenous ancestry living within specified regions. Applicants must have proof of enrollment in a full-time program at a post-secondary institution, be in good scholastic standing for their Grade 11 and 12 years, and demonstrate community involvement and leadership abilities.  Applications can be emailed to chuber@makola.bc.ca

Rick Thomas Memorial Scholarship

The Rick Thomas Memorial Scholarship of $3500 will assist Help Fill A Dream family members with the financial responsibility of paying for post-secondary education, and recognizes the resilience and perseverance that our families have faced due to their own or their family member’s life-threatening / critical condition.

In order to qualify for the bursary, the applicant must be relative of a CUPE 459 member and a graduating secondary school student. Special consideration may be given to applicants in need of financial assistance.  Please see application for more detail.

The Sooke Fine Arts Society offers scholarships to students graduating from EMCS, Royal Bay, WestShore, or Belmont, to provide financial support to students entering a post-secondary program which includes a visual arts component.

CFAX Santas Anonymous Society

The CFAX Santas Anonymous Society Student Bursary aims to provide financial relief to deserving young individuals with preference to those who demonstrate a commitment to community service through volunteerism.

Five bursaries of $2000 each will be granted to contribute towards tuition fees at post-secondary institutions within Greater Victoria for the academic year 2024 – 2025.

The Medavie Health Foundation Scholarship

Up to five scholarships of $5,000 each will be awarded this year to youth who are living with a mental health challenge of their own or that of a family member and are pursuing health-related post-secondary studies at a recognized Canadian university or community college and plan to pursue a career in their health-related field of studies (medical school, nursing, psychology, kinesiology, physiotherapy, nutrition, paramedicine, chiropractic care, public health, health research, etc.). Each scholarship will be renewable for up to three additional years, subject to continued eligibility.

Alpha Chi Theta Orchid Bursary  

This bursary recognizes and rewards a female student graduating high school from Victoria and the surrounding areas who demonstrates the four pillars of Alpha Chi Theta. The student must be attending the University of Victoria beginning September following graduation in order to qualify.

Harbourside Rotary Scholarship

Bernice Harriet Osborne Memorial Basketball Scholarship

This scholarship recognizes students who have participated in the Victoria & District Amateur Basketball Association (preference given to those who have participated for a longer period of time), and set a good example in life, school, athletics for his/her community. Financial need will be considered.

Several scholarships are available ranging from $500 to $10,000. Students wishing to apply should be pursuing post-secondary education in the coming year. National scholarships are due in late May or early June, depending on the year.

Lisa Huus Bursary for People with Physical Disabilities

The Lisa Huus bursary assists persons with disabilities as they undertake or continue their post-secondary education at the University of Victoria, or other accredited colleges/universities on Vancouver Island. Bursaries may be used for items such as tuition fees, textbooks, equipment, transportation, residence and support worker costs.

Rick & Amanda Hansen Scholarship for Youth with Disabilities 

The Rick & Amanda Hansen Scholarship for Youth with Disabilities provides financial support to Canadian youth with disabilities to pursue post-secondary education and realize their full potential. Funding of up to $10,000 per year (up to a maximum of $40,000) is available for youth with disabilities looking to complete a 1- to 4-year post-secondary program at a publicly funded institution in Canada.  Please, see the website for full criteria.

CUPE BC AUBREY BURTON/REG FORD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP  

The Aubrey Burton/Reg Ford Memorial Scholarship is for a student whose parent/guardian is a member in good standing of a CUPE Local affiliated to CUPE BC. To be eligible, the applicant must also have completed Grade 12 in the current or previous calendar year, or the applicant must be a mature student who has not previously enrolled at a Post-Secondary Institution, be entering first year of a recognized public post-secondary institution in BC 

(a copy of the acceptance letter from the admitting institution must be supplied).  The applicant must complete an online application form supported by copies of the Senior Secondary Statement and Letter(s) of Reference from a School Principal or Counsellor.

 

 Five hundred dollar ($500) scholarships will be awarded to each of the following:

  1. One attending a public University (applicant with the highest GPA).

2. One attending a public Community College (applicant with the highest GPA).

3. One attending a public trades or technical institution (applicant with the highest GPA).

4. One based on a “lottery draw” of all applications.

Reflections Scholarship 

The Looking Glass  Foundation supports individuals affected by eating disorders through accessible programs and services, one of which is the Reflections Scholarship.

Each year, the Looking Glass Foundation awards several thousand dollars to BC undergraduate students who have accessed (or are currently accessing) support for an eating disorder and are ready for academic pursuit.  To be eligible, the applicant must be a permanent resident of BC, a full-time student enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution in Canada, currently accessing, or have previously accessed, support for an eating disorder, demonstrate a strong need for financial assistance in order to achieve their academic goals
