The West Shore RCMP Community Policing Advisory Committee Scholarships

1) The “Helping Profession” Scholarship - $500.00 will be awarded to a student who is entering into an accredited post-secondary institution and studying in a field of, but not limited to: policing; nursing, social work; justice studies, firefighting, or counselling. 

2) The “Full Potential” Scholarship - $1000.00 will be awarded to a student in recognition of their ability to overcome adversity and who plans to pursue a post-secondary education in an accredited institute.

Colwood Volunteer Firefighter's Association Scholarship 

This $2000 scholarship is open to any grade 12 student graduating from a secondary school, or person under the age of 21, who has resided within the City of Colwood for at least 5 years at the time of graduation. The candidate must have performed volunteer service within the past five years at date of application. 

(Preference may be given to immediate family of a Colwood Volunteer Firefighters Association member.

Please plan ahead for submission as you will need to mail your application through Canada Post - ideally, the application package should be mailed a week before the due date of April 1st.

Ian Ford Trust Fund Bursary

This bursary to available to any graduating Vancouver Island student who intends to enter post- secondary studies in any course of study, at any recognized post-secondary institution, immediately following high school graduation.  Preference may be given to students demonstrating need, as well as reasonable scholastic achievement and community involvement.

Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Education Foundation

These $1000 to $1500 scholarships are awarded annually to cadets entering the first year of a university or community college course leading to a degree or diploma or a post-secondary training program.

The Gaulin Foundation Memorial Scholarship

The Sarah Gaulin Memorial Scholarship seeks to support and encourage the resilience of individuals with mental illness pursuing post-secondary education.  Students must be registered in a post-secondary institution and provide documented proof of their mental illness.

Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest 

Eligible Participants may enter the Contest as one single individual only ("Entrant"). Each Entrant must create and wear: prom attire consisting of either a complete dress (the "Dress Category") or a complete tuxedo (the "Tux Category") and accessories made using Duck® brand duct tape and/or Duck® brand crafting tape ("Duck Tape® Prom Attire").

Coastal Community Credit Union's Scholarship Program

Do you have a great idea to make a positive difference in your community? Do you want to see that idea become a reality? Coastal Community would like to help you make that happen with our Scholarship Program. "In order to be eligible for a scholarship, we ask that you submit a plan for a project to improve your community."    

They will award eight Grade 12 students with a $2000 scholarship for post-secondary.

Catholic Health Association of BC Bursary

The CHABC grants a $500 bursary to a graduating student who is enrolled in a Catholic secondary school, or who is a member of a BC or Yukon parish and enrolled in a public secondary school/ home-schooled. Students are asked to submit a 500-word essay on a specific topic.

Canadian Hard of Hearing Association Scholarship Program

Three Scholarships $1000 each are offered to students who are hard of hearing, deafened, or oral deaf. Support documentation is required. Eligible applicants may be first-time or returning students at a recognized college or university.

Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation

25 bursaries each totaling $6000 are available to support access to post secondary studies for students who have financial need. CSTF is specifically looking for students who demonstrate strong character: resilience, community mindedness and commitment to excellence.  

Students must be the first generation in their family to attend post-secondary.

4-H British Columbia Provincial Scholarships

Several scholarships are available ranging from $500 to $10,000.  Students wishing to apply should be pursuing post-secondary education in the coming year.  Provincial scholarships are due April 15th.

Ian Paton Sr. Memorial Scholarships

One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded annually in memory of Ian Paton Sr. and his contribution to the 4-H program in BC. This scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing post secondary education in Agriculture and who has a background in agriculture. Personal Guardian and Trustee Educational Assistance Fund

​These bursaries are awarded annually in consultation with the Ministry of Children and Family Development to high school graduates who are 19 years old or over and pursuing a post-secondary academic, technical or vocational program. They are only available to former permanent wards of the Ministry of Social Services and those formerly in continuing custody of the Ministry of Children and Family Development of the Province.

Victoria Diocesan Catholic Women's League Bursary

This bursary is awarded annually to a child or a grandchild of members of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Victoria. Student must complete the Catholic Women’s League Bursary Application Form,  attach a transcript of current academic standing, and attach a narrative essay outlining their successes, achievements, parish and community involvement and future goals.

BC School Superintendents Association (BCSSA)  

Students must demonstrate exemplary service and leadership within the school and community.  One winner will  be  chosen  from  each  of  the  six  BCSSA  provincial  chapters, including Vancouver Island.  Each  winner  will  be  awarded  a  $1,000 scholarship.

The District Authority Awards and the subsequent SIX awards are  open only to students who attend Belmont, Royal Bay, EMCS or Westshore high schools. 

Applications are due by April 17th at 3:30PM

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

You are advised to submit applications BEFORE this date and you definitely must request transcripts and references well before-hand. We suggest you request transcripts at least 2 days in advance and give teachers 10 days to two weeks to prepare reference letters or forms. 

Students can complete the application forms digitally, directly in Google Classroom or they can print them out, complete them by hand, then scan and upload them into Google Classroom. 

Reference Letters should be submitted electronically. Please print templates as needed from the Google Classroom then scan and submit electronically.  If students receive reference letters in sealed envelopes, please forward them to Jacqui ten Hove to put in  the district courier.  

It’s important that the student’s name, school and scholarship name/category be noted on the envelope. 


District Authority Scholarships  

These scholarships recognize graduating B.C. students for excellence in their chosen area of interest. Winners receive a $1250 voucher (valid up to 5 years) to use towards their post-secondary tuition. There are seven categories to apply to: Applied Design, Community Service, Fine Arts, Indigenous Language & Culture, International Languages, Physical Activity, and Technical & Trades Training.

This $2500 bursary is awarded on a rotating basis to a graduating student from one of the school districts of Sooke, Greater Victoria, Saanich or Gulf Islands. Requirements: C+ average or better; participated in student government, clubs, school teams, and/or community activities; displayed dedication and leadership in their service of school and/or community; can demonstrate a positive impact on their school and/or community through service.  

This award rotates between School District 61,62,63.

Nils Jensen Memorial Scholarship

This $2500 bursary is awarded on a rotating basis to a graduating student from one of the school districts of Sooke, Greater Victoria, Saanich or Gulf Islands. Requirements: C+ average or better; demonstrates a keen interest in environmental protection or water security ; participated in student government, clubs, and/ or community activities; displayed dedication and leadership in their service of school and/ or community; can demonstrate a positive impact on their school and/ or community through service.

This award rotates between School District 61,62,63.

Monk Office Supply Scholarship

This award is open to students who display good citizenship and social responsibility at school and in the community, and who are planning to enter the field of environmental studies.

Mosaic Forest Management Scholarship

This $1000 scholarship will be awarded to an SD62 graduate pursuing studies in the field of forestry at a post-secondary institution (degree, diploma or trades). Preference will be given to Indigenous students. The recipient should demonstrate strong leadership qualities. Consideration may be given to students pursuing post-secondary studies in fisheries or other natural resource management related fields.

Ron Warder Memorial Scholarship 

The spirit of this $750 award champions a student who embodies the qualities of leadership, community action, creativity, respect, perseverance, relationship-building, and a passion for supporting the school community and community at large. Canadian Women in Municipal Government Scholarship 

This $1000.00 scholarship is open to young women enrolled in secondary school who are contributing to their school's leadership team or student council. Five scholarships are given each year (one for each major region in Canada).

The Premier’s International Scholarships of $6,000 to $10,000 are awarded on a competitive basis to students from all regions of the province participating in an international experience of at least three months in length. TELUS Student Bursary

Recipients receive a bursary valued at $3,000 (college) or $5,000 (university) to put toward tuition fees at post-secondary institutions in Canada. Eligibility: youth between the ages of 17 and 29 in critical financial need; accepted into, or attending, a first undergraduate degree or diploma program at a college, university or polytechnic institute in Canada; Canadian citizen or permanent resident; commitment to delivering a social impact initiative during the course of their studies that will have a positive social or environmental impact in their community.  The application portal is open to the first 400 applicants or until April 24, 2024, and we encourage students to apply early.

BC Soccer Association Scholarship

BC Soccer annually awards $1000 scholarships to players and referees proceeding on to their post-secondary education. Applications must be signed off by a Youth District Soccer Association Chairperson or an Adult League President.

The Educational Facility Managers Association of British Columbia Bursaries

Four bursaries (valued at $1000 each) are offered to secondary students completing their grade 12 year who will enter a recognized post-secondary educational institution in fall, based on academic achievement and/or special needs. Preference will be given to students entering the fields of engineering, architecture, or building technology. Should there not be suitable applications received in these fields, students in other courses of study will be considered, however, all applicants MUST be dependents of school district employees in the school plant area (i.e. Maintenance or Custodial).

Rocky Point Bird Observatory Award 

Three scholarships of $1000.00 will be presented to graduating, full-time high school students of School Districts 61, 62 and 63 who intend to pursue a career that supports bird and/or environmental conservation. Please note that use of these funds is not restricted to post-secondary costs and may be used to further learning in a conservation-related activity.

The Education Awards Program, through bursaries ranging from $500-$1000, helps individuals living in subsidized housing pursue their educational goals and make positive changes for themselves and their families.

BC Hockey Scholarships

BC Hockey scholarships are open to both players and officials. All players must be registered and in good standing with BC Hockey, or former members playing in the Western Hockey League (WHL) who are in their graduating year of high school. All officiating scholarship candidates must be registered and in good standing with BC Hockey, and be either in their graduating year or high school or already attending a post-secondary institution.

Pat Fletcher Scholarship Foundation - Golf Scholarship

This scholarship is open to any Canadian student under the age of 25 who is in need of financial assistance for the purpose of pursuing an education at the post-secondary level.  Bursaries of up to $2500 per year are awarded.

West Shore Community Response Network Award

This $300.00 award is available to a graduating, full-time high school student of School District 62, who intends to pursue a career that supports the elderly and/or the aging process. Use of these funds is not restricted to post-secondary costs and may be used to further learning in a care-giving career.

Canadian Agri-Business Education Foundation

CABEF awards seven $2,500 scholarships annually to full-time students enrolling or currently in an agricultural related program at a Canadian university, college or apprenticeship institution. Students from across Canada are invited to apply. One scholarship will be awarded in the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Québec, the Atlantic Provinces as a whole and one from British Columbia/Territories.

Peninsula Co-op Scholarships

14 scholarships, totaling $15,000, are offered in the areas of athletics, community service, academic excellence, overcoming adversity, etc.  Students apply directly through the University of Victoria or Camosun College websites.

Western Inspirational Bursary Award

This $750.00 bursary offered by Western Financial Group.  This bursary award is not a scholarship for high academic achievement. It is a character award that aims to recognize the students in our communities who have overcome various adversities, including mental health, physical disability, discrimination, financial hardship, or family issues.

Despite these challenges, these students have demonstrated kindness, determination, and courage to graduate high school and continue their education through post-secondary institutions, trade schools, online courses, or the military.
