Entering 4th Grade Math

Welcome to the Math Virtual Learning University page! We’re so glad you’re here! Below are some activities to challenge and keep you learning throughout the summer. If you are unable to complete the challenges below for any reason, feel free to adjust the activity to meet your learner's specific needs. Happy Learning!

Challenge 1:

Watch this video about graphs. Roll a die. Multiply the number by 7 to find the product. Do this 25 times. Tally your results. Create a bar graph here with your results. What do you notice?

Challenge 2:

Practice your multiplication facts using flashcards or online playing one of these games.

Challenge 3:

Review place value by watching this video. Write these numbers in standard form.

2 hundreds, 7 tens, 4 ones

5 hundreds, 6 tens, 12 ones

17 tens, 4 hundreds, 6 ones

Challenge 4:

Julie shares her three brownies between herself and 5 friends. How much did each person get? Use Fraction Tiles to help you model the problem.

Challenge 5:

How many different ways can you make $1.25 using coins? Show the combinations using on-line coins. Choose Grade 3 and manipulatives: Currency.

Challenge 6:

Have a scavenger hunt around your house looking for right angles. Make a list of all the right angles you find. If you don’t remember what a right angle is, you can review all about angles on Math is Fun!

Challenge 7:

Create a design using pattern blocks. Identify the names of each shape. Can you create the design using a different combinations of shapes?

Challenge 8:

Ernie wants to build a fenced in play yard. He has 12 pieces of fence that are each 1 foot long. Draw and label all the different rectangle play yards he could make.

Challenge 9:

Write down your bedtime from last night. What time did you wake up this morning? Figure out how many hours you slept. You can use this virtual clock to help you.

Challenge 10:

Play Multiplication War with someone. Directions: Use a deck of cards. Pass out all the cards in the deck between the players. Each player flips over 2 cards and multiplies them. The person with the largest product wins the round and takes the cards.The person with the most cards at then end of the game wins!
