Over the next few weeks we will explore Earth's natural wonders. Today, we will use what we already know about text and graph features to learn about the seven natural wonders of world.
Big Idea words
Readers should look for any text or graphic features that the author might use. These features help readers’ understand the text better. A text feature can indicate a title or show emphasis through special type. A graphic feature, such as a chart, helps give meaning to or explain ideas in a text.
Informational text often has:
headings that name the topic of each section of the text. In addition, there may be subheadings to break down that topic into subtopics. The headings and subheadings may be written in boldface, all caps, or both.
charts which are sed to organize information in a meaningful and easy-to-understand way.
graphs which usually represent numerical information
diagrams which are pictures with labels that explains ideas in the text
Maps, illustrations, and photographs which contain captions or labels to explain what they show
