Procedures:

Homeschooled Students

Home Schooled Students

  • The parent should come to the school to complete the withdrawal paperwork. The student will be withdrawn from Power School at the school level.

  • An IEP conference must be convened with Home Schooling being the focus of the plan.

  • The TOR then should submit a Withdrawal Information Sheet to Special Education Services.

  • The TOR will schedule and conduct an Annual Case Conference for the student each year to develop an IEP/ISP. (See the manual for instructions on how to write the IEP/ISP for a homeschooled student)

  • Because SBCSC is required to provide services to homeschooled students through an Individual Service Plan (ISP), the student will then be enrolled in Power School as a "dually enrolled" student.

  • The student will remain on your CODA list, and you will remain the TOR, and as such, will be required to hold the ACC.

Homeschool Law

(This information is taken from the Indiana Department of Education website)

In addition to reporting enrollment, Indiana law requires the following of all homeschools and other non-accredited, private schools:

180 DAYS OF INSTRUCTION

You decide which days your school will be in session, and how long to teach each day. In the case of mid-year transfers, days attended at the first school count toward the 180 day total at the homeschool.

ATTENDANCE RECORDS

There is no special form for these records, which are used to verify private school attendance. Please note that the law allows local public school superintendents to request copies of your child's attendance records to verify attendance.

INSTRUCTION EQUIVALENT TO THAT GIVEN IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

State law does not define equivalency of instruction for public or private schools. If there is ever a question of educational neglect, keeping good attendance records and other documentation regarding attendance and continuing educational activity is highly instrumental in addressing these concerns.

Curriculum

State law exempts from the curriculum and program requirements which public schools must follow.
