The JGS Enrichment program provides after-school care for all families who seek it. By collaborating with various community entities, the program provides engaging experiences which extend beyond the core curriculum.

Ants on a log - a childhood snack favorite (is there any other way to eat celery, really?) and learned about the ecological benefit of having ants!

We're on to a new session of Art Club, Sustainable Snacks, Survival Skills, and Games for youngers - OM will go to their tournament soon!

We had an engaging week of enrichment despite February vacation and mountains of fresh fluffy snow on our minds!
On Monday, our big WMSI group teamed up to make the dream work on our own Jaguars' Mountain, digging avalanche pits and building slippy slides and stairways.
On Tuesday, our art club studied Valentine's Day by sharing one of the most ancient and intuitive acts of love: making healthy, wholesome, and homemade food together, and love for our planet by using recycled paper to make labels and gift cards to share our granola with loved ones.
Jaguars love snowy hard work, eating robust and nourishing snacks, and the warmest of all, Jaguars love love!
Winter enrichment has been a joyous whirlwind of respectful teamwork, new ideas, creative expression, and healthy movement.
We're always thankful to share special after-school time with your little ones.

The Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds group made Hobby Horses to race around obstacle courses. Special Guest Darren Piotrow joined the races and also shared his training and meal planning as a professional cyclist.
Art Club crushed Life Savers candies and rolled and cut out dough to create "stained glass window" cookies. Did they share with you?
Art Club also worked for 3 afternoons creating mosaics. Students glued on the tiles and completed the grouting last week (these are pre-grout.) Thank you, Mr. Walsh, for cutting the plywood backers for our mosaics!
This project took patience, fine motor coordination, and lots of attention! Students were able to work at their own level, and each worked so hard ! They should be proud of the project they created!

JGS After School Enrichment
Hello, JGS Families,
We’re looking forward to creating and enjoying precious after-school opportunities with your children and hope that, throughout the year, we’ll be able to provide programs that are fascinating, fun, engaging, and enriching for everyone.
Our first after-school program is scheduled for Monday, September 9. We’ll share welcome-back tea, some of our favorite summer memories, and our wishes for the upcoming school year…written with invisible ink!
Going forward, after-school enrichment will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Our plan is to have an Art Club on Tuesdays during which we’ll provide diverse materials to explore, introduce creative and scientific techniques, learn about influential artists throughout history and the evolution of styles, and allow students generous free time to explore their own ideas and techniques. Maybe some of our Jaguars will BE historical and influential artists themselves someday!
On Thursdays, we’ll offer Story Club, which is similar to a book club but our “books’ will be created by different methods of storytelling inspired by students’ interests and are likely to include poetry, illustration, movement, sculpture, pantomime, and puppet shows.
In both Art Club and Story Club, we hope to give students lots of freedom to pursue learning in ways that are the most inspiring, approachable, and comfortable for them while also providing a safe, structured, and as limitless as possible learning environment.
The JGS After School Programming Parent Guide is also attached.
Please look it over and discuss it with your student(s). Our hope is that, with all school programs, a sense of community and a sensitive awareness of the feelings of everyone is a priority and an expectation. A signed Parent Guide returned to school is required for student participation in after school enrichment and sports programming.
Please feel free to contact me at k_byrne@sau9.org if you have any questions or concerns.
JGS After School Programming Parent Guide
Parents & Guardians: Please read over and discuss this After School Programming guide with your student/s, sign it, and return the signed portion to the school office. Please discuss the discipline policy with your child. This guide will cover all JGS after school programming, and signing it now will cover for the whole school year. Please keep the handbook at home for your reference and return the last page to the school office. A signed copy must be on file for your child to participate in any after school activity.
Goals:
JGS After-School Programming provides academic, technical, creative, physical and social enrichment opportunities to JGS students. The components of the program are designed to provide students with the opportunity to engage in learning activities that may not be available during school hours. Our offerings and activities change per session and season and may be modified at any time to best suit the needs of our students. This programming includes Soccer, Nordic Skiing, and all sessions of After-School Enrichment.
Enrollment:
Registration forms will be available prior to the start of a new program or session. Space is limited for some programs, therefore students will be enrolled on a first come-first serve basis. Students may attend the program once completed registration forms and payment (if there is a fee) are returned to Miss Susan.
Fees:
There are no fees for soccer. Nordic skiing fees will vary depending on equipment rentals.
After-School Enrichment fees are on a sliding scale, with full pay at the rate of $10 a day per child. No child will be turned away for inability to pay, so please contact Mrs. Messer at e_messer@sau9.org for more information about the sliding scale fees. Please make checks payable to JGS, or pay through the EZ School Pay app.
Illness Policy:
If an after-school program participant becomes ill, a parent or authorized person will be called to pick up the child. If a child is absent from school, or leaves school early due to sickness, they may not participate that day.
Emergency/Health Information:
Parents are asked to provide important contact information on the registration form such as cell phone number and any health concerns or allergies the child has. It is up to the parents to notify the program of any changes in health and/or emergency contact information.
Location:
The Soccer Program takes place on the town field and at the Snowflake Inn’s Triangle field. After-School Enrichment begins at JGS immediately after school. Activities take place throughout the school building, school grounds (i.e. Whitney Center, playground) and in the village. After School Nordic will launch from JGS to Jackson Ski Touring Foundation (Jackson XC) and students will ski on JSTF trails.
Hours:
Programs are not open on days that school is closed, including holidays, teacher workshop days and early release days. Inclement weather can also cause unscheduled closings. The Soccer Program runs until 4:15 for the youngest players, 4:30 for older players, Mondays and Wednesdays, and assorted game days, times TBD. After-School Enrichment pick up is at 4:45 at JGS. Nordic pick up is at 4:30 at Jackson XC.
Pick Up Policy:
Please be on time to pick up your child. If you are going to be late because of an emergency, please notify the instructor or coordinator. Parents are required to pick their children up promptly at the end of each day’s activity. We will not release your child to anyone who is not on your authorized list. Please contact the school office with changes in who’s picking up your child. When parking to pick up your child from an activity at or near JGS, please leave the parking spaces at the Marketplace/PO open for their customers and if the activity is at the town field, please park on the street leaving the fire lane to the pond open.
Discipline Policy:
Students who attend the after-school program are expected to follow school rules in order to maintain a safe and fun environment. We will work closely with you and your child to ensure respectful behavior. If, however, the problem persists, our discipline policy is as follows:
1st infraction: We will confer with your child and inform you at the end of that day’s program.
2nd infraction: Principal and parents are informed, child may be suspended from the program for up to 3 days/practices/games.
3rd infraction: Child will be suspended from the program for the remainder of that session.
Our goal is to provide a fun and enriching experience for our students. We have many adults from the community sharing their skills with us. We expect our students to represent the JGS community in a positive manner and treat these adults with consideration. We ask that you discuss the behavior expectations with your children to ensure they understand the discipline process in all programs after school.
-Please cut along the line and return the bottom portion to Miss Susan.--
I have read the after-school program handbook and have discussed the procedures and discipline policy with my child/children.
